What if you do not blip the throttle when you do the clutchless downshift?
It still works.
I'm sure you have not tested this but what if you did not rev high enough or too high?
You are correct in that assumption.
Does it cut ignition to unload the engine between gears to downshift the same way it does when you upshift? ...and the brief unload is where the blip happens?
Yes and ignition cut happens when upshifting as well as downshifting and that is where I have been blipping. The cut times are fully adjustable at 1000RPM increments but are the same for an upshift as well as a downshift. I have not changed the ignition kill durations from the out of the box settings as they have worked fine for me so far.
Could you mess up a clutchless downshift with the Healtech?
Absolutley. I haven't intentionally tried to mess it up because transmission work is expensive from what I remember even if I drop the motor myself.
