I for one blamed the lower tire pressure for screwing up the BT-14s that came on the bike. I now run with Corsa threes at a much higher tire pressure(40). It also seems that I now have have much better tire wear. When it gets cold I will be dropping down for sure. Thanks. Great info. Love the links. Cheers.

My 14 steers like a truck with the front below 40 PSI.

Spot on re the cold vs hot PSI. I use a pressure gauge and a (big) push bike pump before I go - saves much hassle at the servo...

I'm about to change to Pilot Power 2CT's...interesting to see how pressure sensitive they are....

You guys have to remember that heat builds the pressure up....and your tires produce ALOT more heat on a race track than the street, so you have to start out with lower cold race temps to prolly end up closer to street temps anyway. What works on a track isn't going to work the same on the street...apples and oranges if I may say It all balances out boys....no need to bring out the tire irons lol.

My truck has the tire pressure sensors. The tire pressure changes five lbs 10min after I leave the driveway and remains with in one pound no matter how far I go. This has just been my observation of hot and cold in a truck tire. Has any one checked to see what the increase is on our bikes with normal (STREET) riding ? If not I will do it today. Like Troppo reports, mine too steers like a truck below 40psi.

Just remember when racers lower the tire pressure, they also expect it to come back up because they heat the tires up far more than you do (unless you roadrace).

Also, the Bridgestones (or whatever) they are running, you cannot buy. No matter what Bridgestone says.

They also don't expect the tires to last more than finishing the final lap.

And they aren't riding ZX14s (which is an elephant compared to a ZX10).

Edit: what Bad said. Heh

Hahaha,

My car's tires are like, shit. There's like no air left in them, when you try to steer out
of the parking lot, i have to really YANK the steeringwheel (.. I never really drive the
car anymore) ...

Though, EVERY day i go out with my bike, i always first give the tires a kick, to see if they still tight,
and i check them up every .. 1-2 months at the gasstation and put em full again with air.

ALL GUUD!

Kruz you ought to apoligize when you act like a jacka$$. It is one thing to once again be full of bs- we expect that. it is another to wish another rider would crash.

Let's keep it cool my fellow Riders!!

Pushing you're tires on the edge of having grip (If i get it right) sounds
not too safe, SAFETY FIRST!! Go try that stuff on the damn track

As your signature says, there is no one to eat the stupid people. All you need is one of those stupid people to pull out of a "hidden" driveway / lane when you are committed coming out of a turn and its all over. Won't matter who's fault it is, either.

The only safe twisties I ever found were at a race track. And even they aren't all that safe, if you look at the videos of the recent high sides and collisions.

You might go your whole life without an incident. Or it might happen tomorrow. All I know for sure is the more you push it, the higher the odds against you go.

Just like a road racer slows the pace towards the end of a race if not being pressured. Knowing it will increase the chances of crossing the finish line first, and in one piece. Its not always about the tires going away, or the fuel, it is more often just knowing that slowing it down increases the odds of not having an accident and losing the win.

It's all fun until it turns to poo!

My 14 is a better ride with the pressures up at 42 psi, tyre people went to a lot of trouble to make PR2's as a sport tourer tyre for a bike like this, with pressures at 42. Maybe beliveing it to be the best alround ?. Yes sometimes I ride like girl sometimes like a fool.
Just what feels right to me at the time.

i tend to check my tyres almost everytime before going out, and adjust the pressure according to the conditions.
normally i have 40psi unless im carrying luggage or pillion where i g up to 42psi, if its cold out i drop to 37-38psi to help heat them up.
but as others have said before, unless its extreme (way over inflated or nearly flat) most tyres will function but obviously not be at their optimum, it really comes down to rider ability which comes down to rider confidence! if your happy then you will ride better!

Got a new set of Pilot Power 2CT's today. Front at 38 felt OK. Mind you, that was riding home from the shop!

More tests tomorrow...a fantastic tyre...turn in is magnificent compaired with the stockers.

This tire seems to be a Fav . In some of the bike reviews they remove stock tires and install the Michelin for the track test. Glad you like them.

as a matter of interest, ive just put BT021 back on after 2 sets of 016s and i have noticed the bike feels slower to turn in. there doesnt seem to be alot of difference in grip levels in the dry in normal road riding at least, i'll know all about the wet now shortly as we are due torrential rain for the week!

^^Good to have the confirmation. I knew there was a big change when I went to 16s from the stocks. I guess I'm just used to it now.

Kruz 36/42 is to high maybe thats what the manual calls for but once you are out and the tire gets hot you could be running as high as 38/44 and that kills the contact patch. The bike should change direction quicker with higher tire pressure but you sacrifice a lot of grip assuming you ride "twisties". Granted you will wear tires a lot faster but who buys a 1iter or even worst a zx14 and worries about preserving the tires. Have you had someone setup the suspension for you? Playing with tire pressures to get the best compromise is pointless until the suspension works right. Hey but if you ride all highway go with the 36/42 you'll avoid that flat spot for a little longer. OBTW I'm sure you already know the OE BT-015s suck I found a good deal on a set of BT-003RS for $260 shipped the differance is night and day.

If you push your tires on the streets to the edge of cornering grip you're an idiot and deserve to end up in a ditch. Just my .02

That's pretty full on mate. Not a cool thing for one biker to say to another, eh?

I wouldn't wish that on anybody mate, sorry if you took it personally, I should have reprased it as "If anyone pushes their tires on the streets to the edge of cornering grip, they're an idiot and deserve to end up in the ditch". That was my intent and the sentiment is true, pushing to the very limit of traction on the street is ill advised. I guess I just get a little irritated when someone 10,000 miles away is trying to tell me how my bike is handling.

Peace out bro!

Go back and reread your statement...

"It is one thing to once again be full of bs- we expect that."
Who is the jackass here making comments like that? Have I ever attacked you like you have done to me several times on this forum???? Huh?? Have I? BS means a lie, you are calling me a liar. Who's the real jackass?? Like I told you before, if you think what I say is BS then that's your opinion and you are entitled to it but don't bitch when you don't like what I have to say. You are the one that chooses to read it, no ones puttin a gun to your head!

From Canyon Chasers website:

Tire Pressure
What about tire pressure and size? This one does not depend. For almost all cases go with the manufacturer's recommendations. Believe it or not, those designers and engineers in Japan, Italy, and Germany know a lot more about motorcycle design than we think we do. Your best and safest bet for motorcycle performance and handling is to run the recommended pressure. You can deviate slightly depending on what you want from your tire, but the closer you stay to manufacturer's guidelines, the happier you will be. Dropping pressure provides more traction but can compromise stability and increases wear. Increasing pressure decreases traction and can compromise stability but decreases wear. Also, check your tire pressure frequently.

Hmmmm, isn't this what I said earlier, traction (grip) and stability go in opposite directions (inverse variation) as tire pressure is changed? You can't increase one without decreasing the other. In the end, you run what you feel comfortable with. BTW they're talking about sport tires for the road not the track. I would venture to guess 95% of the readers on this forum ride street.
