I'm still happy with my '07. I like the styling better than the 14R. Nothing against the 14R, but I agree the Gen1 looks sleeker. And I'm seeing the 14R with a decent looking exhaust. I'm sure the 14R is an improvement in many ways, but my 14 is more bike than I can use anyway. The extra power and other things are wasted on me. So it boils down to looks for me.
Only complaint I've had about the looks is the grills should be painted and also the ram-air covers. I plan to get both painted soon. I saw a nice blue flame job on one members bike. Just on the grills. It gave the effect of flames coming from the header. Very nice. I'll ask my local shop if they can make it look right. If I'm too skeptical, I'll settle for just metallic black to match the rest of the body. It'll be the final touch as far as I'm concerned.

Do they rent bikes in Adelaide? We have rental shops over here, mostly Harleys but a few sportbikes available. Not cheap, usually $200 USD per day.

Rental conditions
Motorcycle Licenses
Learner and P Plate licenses are acceptable for 250cc motorcycles. Full Australian, international or country of origin license's are acceptable. The minimum age is 18 for motorcycles above 250cc
Minimum age for scooter hire is 18, and must have full license or P plate.
Security Deposits
A security deposit is required on a current Credit Card and is fully refundable provided the motorcycle is returned undamaged, full of fuel and on time.
Insurance
Insurance for personal injury is in most cases covered by Registration: Third Party Cover. Insurance excess is $2,500.00
Note: The balance of the excess is payable if the motorcycle is damaged and/or involved in the unlikely event of an accident. Show and Go must be notified as soon as possible.
Maintenance
Regular oil checks and chain lubing and adjustment are the responsibility of the renter. Tools and chain lubes supplied.
Minimum Rental
Motorcycles can be hired for one day during the week and one and a half days minimum on weekends. Rates include 300 kilometre's per day and GST.
Hire Business Hours
Monday-Friday 8:30am to 5:30pm
Saturday 9:00am to 2pm
Closed Sundays and Public Holidays
Show and Go reserve the right to refuse rental at its discretion.

@ neil, thanks for the generous offer dude, would love to go your direction but cant on this trip, but sometime in the future i have a cunning plan to ship my 14 to Oz for a trip to japan via south east asia!
@ bean, i'll have mother and baby on the trip but hoping to escape...i mean leave them to the tender care of her brother and family while i go do some biking, so not sure what days i can go yet but if i can get a bike in melbourne and spin up the coast for a day or two that would suit me perfect! :) let you know when it gets a bit closer!
