Is this is a good offer on a brand new 2016 14R SE?
01/23/17 12:40 PM

$14,703.89 out the door with 4 additional years of factory warranty. I currently have a $100 deposit on the bike to hold it for 2 weeks. What do you guys think? I just signed up on this forum and learned that the '16 models are down about 10hp and up about 3 lbs from the '12-'15 models due to emission regulations, but this could be easily overcome with a full exhaust and flash, right? Also, I usually dyno break in my engines, but this dealership doesn't have a dyno, so I was just gonna do the hard 25 mile or so break in, oil change, and then basically ride her normally. Thoughts on that too?

What kind of deals have you all been getting on the same or similar bikes? And thanks again, it's nice to be part of a group that seems as classy as yours.

That's $500 less than I paid for mine in the Seattle area. Seems like a decent deal, and the incoming models aren't offering anything worth holding out for.

Correct. The '16 has extra catalytic converters in the header pipe that slip-ons won't fix. After a full system and flash, it made 204hp/120tq.

Also, I usually dyno break in my engines, but this dealership doesn't have a dyno, so I was just gonna do the hard 25 mile or so break in, oil change, and then basically ride her normally. Thoughts on that too?

That's a hotly debated topic among many riders. From the information I've read and the tuners I work with, I prefer dyno/hard break-in. You should be able to duplicate that with street riding. I'd recommend trailering to a dyno, however. It will allow for better baseline info, plus your tuner can catch any issues in a controlled environment.

FYI, here's a link to my thread about crashing my '13, and the subsequent building-up of a new '16 SE. 2013 to 2016 SE

Paid $14K out the door on a 2016 ZX-14R SE last April. I really like the color and like the bike even more after I removed the 2 "pumpkin launchers" and installed a pair of 2 Brothers CF cans. Sounds great and shed a BUNCH of ugly weight...

Damn bikes got expensive! i remember looking at an 09 ZX-10 back in 2010. Coulda got that for 6500 brand new.

Found out they woulda took 10,000 or less for my busa i paid 11k for.

I don't feel so bad about all the money I spent on mods now. Damn I don't know how I would ever afford a modded bike now.

Well, sounds like that's a good price. I'd still look for an older one brand new. Same thing couple thou cheaper. You don't like the colors, a new set of fairings is about a thousand.

Thanks for the input guys. I may just have to go ahead and pull the trigger on this! d04011, sounds like you got a really good deal, but was that without additional warranty? They quoted me 14,203 without additionally warranty. Rook, they have gone up in prices, but I never buy used anymore, I'm just a sucker for new bikes and I don't like not knowing if a previous owner left a bolt loose somewhere...but really it's about the "freshness" of the bike that does it for me lol

TRAILBOSS, your bike is awesome and essentially perfect. I may have to copy some of the things you did lol. Those are great numbers you put down! Thanks for telling me what I needed to hear, I feel much better about this deal now. And sorry about your '13 but it looks like you've more than made up for it. And thanks for the break in tips, I'd love to trailer it to a dyno but there isn't one for miles and I'd have to pay for the transport since I don't have a truck or trailer (guess I could rent one?)

Sorry I can't figure out how to do copied replies btw. Lastly, what kind of insurance are you guys paying? I want to get full coverage but if they want anything close to what they wanted for the 10R ($4,400 a year was the best I could find) it will have to be liability which would suck.

I just paid 13,800 out the door for that same exact bike 2 weeks ago but with no extended warranty. So sounds like a good deal to me. It's my 3rd zx14. And I think its my favorite so far, there is just no better bike in my opinion

With full exhaust and flash does the full factory warranty and extension still exist? I'm sure the exhaust is not a problem and possibly add on tuners. But would flashing affect the warranty? If so then that could be another savings. Most extensions on warranty seems like a racket to me. Most large issues don't fall inside the warranty period. Not sure about the 14r but in other aspects I pass on extended warranties...

Flashing the ECU will most certainly void any factory warranty.

Here in NC you can get it for $12,300 otd with regular warranty. Don't know what extended warranty would be. And yes that is the SE. Sportcycles in Rockingham NC. Have bought 4 there in the past 2 years. Awesome prices!

I normally don't buy extended warranties on anything but I got a 4 year Kawasaki factory extended warranty for $405 from Irving (Texas) Kawasaki. I had called there to get a factory extended warranty on my 2015 Concours since it has a good bit of electronics (one replacement of TPMS with its non-replaceable battery) would pay for the extended warranty. Got to chatting with Phil (Manager who has been there since the dealership opened in 1969 - still exclusively Kawasaki) and decided WTH and got it for my ZX-14R as well. Phil can be contacted at (972) 438-9425 and he is a really great guy1.

Full disclosure - I have no affiliation with Phil or the dealership but I know they have some great prices on Kawasaki bikes.

Regarding flashes and voiding the warranty, my local Kawasaki (exclusive) dealer knows I have a great flash on my Concours and is good with it in the event of most warranty work. If it was something directly attributable to the flash, then we'd have to talk. I trust my dealer implicitly to work on all my bikes of different brands.

Some dealers will try to BS you that your brake master cylinder, rear brake, etc. that went out was due to your aftermarket flash... Those dealerships are just assholes that would try to screw you anyway.

Rockingham is also well known for its great prices over on the Concours forum. My $14K OTD price included the Maine 5.5% sales tax and was only 45 minutes away. By the time I paid Maine sales tax it would have been $13K at Rockingham. If it was lots closer I would have definitely considered buying it there.

I'm not talking about your dealership's interpretation of the warranty. Per the warranty terms, KHI will void it if you flash the bike.

Of course most service writers will take care of you. Just understand what you're getting into.

I dont know if having the newest model is important to you but a month ago I bought a 2015 for $11,500 otd. Add in the $700 for the warranty and youd be at $12,200.

Beautiful bike indeed but dealer couldn't subtract the freight cost? if you're paying outright with cash, check to see if he'll work with you on that. And, those documentation title, license fees seem pretty outrageous - that also something I would try and work out.

Whenever I purchase from a dealer and 100% become a negotiator especially if I'm paying cash or even cash and card, still work out a deal.

Good luck on the purchase!

The two weeks is long up...either he went for it or didn't. Price is totally dependent on local market conditions. If there is lots of supply and not much demand, prices go down and vv. Asking if a price is "good" on a forum makes little sense when you have people from everywhere with their own market conditions.

That's not a great Deal. Of course, part of it is Sales Tax.

As of Jan., it's Last Year's bike. And we have NO idea what or if the '18 will look like. And since no real changes since 2012, it's really a 5-yr old model, with soft demand.

Dealer should eat F&S.

You don't really need a warranty. ZX14's are bullet proof if you don't abuse 'em. And if you do, they won't honor the warranty anyway.

Now until July is the worst time to buy a bike. Best to wait until the downhill side of Summer like August, when Dealers start getting a little nervous.

So I'm thinking a good deal with Sales Tax is $12,800. Whatever the Dealer offers you, don't take it. You're not getting a deal unless the Salesman is angry and yelling at you about how he has to feed his family. F 'em all.

You could try to roll a Yosh 4-1 System + Labor into the deal, and the 600 mi service, maybe that would help.

At some poit you just have to go for it. IME people that nickle and dime everything to death never end up enjoying their purchase anyway because no matter what they "paid too much for it". Then of course it's made everyone involved miserable too, sales person, dealer.

It's like I tell the people who tell me people should only buy used cars. Somebody has to buy them new.

I don't mind being that guy. New bikes/cars/guns/etc offer a sense of ownership that is unparalleled. You get to be the steward for the entire break-in and maintenance process of a particular machine. It's great learning the small details through new ownership.
