*Question*

If I sold a kit that trickle charged your motorcycle battery via small inconspicuous solar panels that would be permanently mounted to your bike, would you be interested in buying one? What features, if any, would you look for?

ALL comments are appreciated!

Sounds like a winner there! Can't say if I'd get one-but it sounds really cool Jesse.I'm sure you wouldn't have any problem selling them!Go for it!It would have to be inconspicuous like you said, and trouble/maintenance free though-cause it's simple to plug my bike right into my tender.During the Winter-you know-that deal wouldn't work very well. And sometimes I do ride if I can when it's VERY overcast(which happens alot in Spring and Fall).

how bout you take them same panels and mounted them to the side of ur garage and run a lead to the bike? would have to be cost effective though. maybe do a study on how much power the battery tender is drawing each month compared to the cost of going solar. but with 3 bikes on tenders all winter if you came up with a panel that could charge 3 bikes then i might be interested.

Well having them mounted on a house would be a good idea but its not mobile. If you had a trickle charger that was mobile and efficient enough, you wouldn't need such a powerful stator and thus overall you would end up improving fuel economy.

Okay-now I'm intrigued-how does a "powerful" stator affect fuel economy?Just wondering.

Personally I think if you had some sort of reliable solar power delivery you wouldnt even need a stator on the engine. Or a person could even build a "stator" into the braking system so that when it does hinder power (IE rotational mass and magnetic resistance) its 100% regenerative not 70 or 80% regenerative. Not to mention a stator system on the brakes would be unsprung weight.

Interesting idea. You'd still have to have some charging system or riding the interstate in the dark/rain would be a problem. I've wanted to set up a solar charger for my garage for a long time, since my car and bike are hooked up to chargers all winter. It wouldn't need to track the sun since it's only needed to top off the batteries. Just use 3-4 panels angled so one is always facing the sun, and a controller so the batteries don't overcharge.
