New slip-ons
01/22/12 2:01 AM

Preparing to purchase some new exhaust cans....either yoshimura or Akrapovic slip ons. Two questions:
1. With either purchase, will I need to do any adjustments to the bike? Re-mapping?
2. Which of the two will likely be the quieter of the bunch?
Main reasons for the purchase are for aesthetics and weight reduction. Thanks in advance for your input.

Noise level don't quote but I don't think there will be a big difference between the two.
I rode my 06 for about a year with slip ons and no PC.
I would put a PC and get a good map just to be on the safe side, especially if it'll be a permanent set up.

sako, is this a 2012 you are talking about? Because I have no clue what the delivered A/F ratio is.

2008 - 2011, they are delivered rich enough you can put slip-ons on and not worry about it. A piggy would be overkill.

Yosh is now making EPA Noise Reg-compliant slip-ons, so if noise is a concern, they aren't any louder than stock.

Yay for the new law in California, which will force manufacturers like Brock to either silence their products or not sell them in California. Which would be a bitter pill to swallow.

Denver, Colorado, has outlawed any non-stock exhausts systems on any motorcycle. Be sure to avoid the city on your way around The Rockies.

Better to be judged by 12 than carried by 6

Yes, it will spread through all but a few states over the coming years.

If you look at the US map of which states have passed Jessica's Law, the same hold-outs will probably resist the noise abatement movement also.

My experience, from both living in California for a few decades, and from paying attention to what becomes of laws passed first in California, is that as goes California law, so goes the nation.

We have a saying in Illinois: We don't give a fuck how they do it in California. Hell, we don't even have a helmet law. How are they going to go after loud pipes?

I don't believe in the "they're coming to take our (insert your favorite object of posessive paranoia here) away conspiracy theorists. Stand up and be counted or get run over like a bus over an ice cream cone.

So far in Denver, after at least a year, the appearance is that cops are not proactively using this law on bikes that are no longer stock, only using it to make it more easy to cite a bike that is extremely loud. The bill originated from neighborhood complaints about Harleys and the fact that the only way to cite a bike was to use a decibel meter in a way that wasn't very practical. I have a full Muzzy system with a carbon fiber can and have never been bothered, and don't expect to be at this rate. I haven't heard of any Denver locals being cited. If I had a megaphone I might have second thoughts.

Well, I ended up with the Yosh R-77 Ti slip-ons. A $380 savings over the Akrapovic was the main reason. Picked the dual system up thru 58cycle.com for $809 delivered. Will post pictures after they are installed.
