OEM Oil Filter
03/11/16 12:02 PM

Kawasaki has made the decision to get more gross margin on OEM oil filter. It used to be "made in Japan" but now OEM filter is "made in China" and price is the same. I just used up my stock last night. For the next oil change, I will use non-OEM...only if I could find non Chinese made filters.

While I was looking for some additional information on the OEM filter, I found Vic was posting the topic about the OEM filter on ridersforum. Interesting. I never thought about the bypass pressure valve thingy. I may stick with Made in China at least for a time being.

Cool but reusable?? I haven't investigated it but the idea of reusing a filter over prolonged period of time scares me more than a Chinese filter that will get thrown away. Is there any evidence of accellerated wear from using a OEM Chinese filter?

Stainless Steel reusable oil filters have been around for a long time.

Here's a review on webbikeworld.com

I have been using Wix filters for a while. They have a factory not far from here, although I'm not sure they make every type of filter there. The local NAPA store runs a sale each year and I buy filters for everything; 4 Fords, the 14 and the lawnmower. Saves quite a few bucks compared to buying them individually.

On a cost basis alone, you'd have to go through quite a few oil changes to exceed the price of the stainless reusable filter which goes for about a hundred bucks IIRC.

I also have an off-brand filter for the 14 someone gave me, but I think I'll save that for my nephew's '04 Triumph Sprint. which takes the same filter. He only needs an oil change about once every two years no more than he rides.

Oldman I have used Napa Gold oil filters on the 14r. Always good quality. I think the number is 1358.
