BIG TIME TRIVIA Question
01/06/10 11:43 PM

RV, This is where I would need to see a factory parts manual. Kind of a technical trivia question where I do not have the goods at hand. The dealer near you can answer that question. Have the parts guy page the beginning of the parts manual until you see, 'how to use the book something," or how to read the frame/eng from year to year. The bikes will have their associated Vin codes to see who has what option as far as ABS and country and or these united states of destination. Because, some engine plants with carry smaller diameter intake velocity stacks with a French code letter, as will the Vin having a California smog system for this state as opposed to the 48 state letter codes.

As you can see, the letters mean quite a number of different designations. For me to say that "A" stands for ABS, I just cannot say with conviction as being correct there, RV.

I'm going to take a guess that J for the first letter of the Vin means it was built in Japan. Maybe the next letter is the city assembled. Something like that. I can say for sure that if you see 147A, or 148A, then this designates the year of the bike being a 2007 and 2008, respectively.

Maybe we'll have an answer for you. Some hard core Kawi trivia expert will run the numbers down for you.

If I understand it correctly, the A is the designation used for the California models.

If yours has an A and the extra canister under the seat it is a California model.
