Ouch

"A linchpin with four screws was applied to Valentino and the recovery time could be around four to five months, but everything is still to be seen."

He added: "We received Valentino Rossi at the Careggi Hospital, where we made detailed checks in order to rule out any other injuries, and the results were satisfactory.

"We therefore decided to proceed with the surgery for the exposed fracture of the right leg.

"We performed a spinal block (epidural) and cleaned and washed the fracture, which was then aligned and stabilised with a pin.

"The surgery had good results, the alignment was good and the bone is now stable."

Buzzi also said that the seven-time champion in the top class will likely have to use crutches for six weeks.

Maybe not the fastest rider of all time but he would have to of been the most consistent, or the most consistently fast rider of all time. no mater how you look at him he is just amazing, at 31 you have to wounder is it worth coming back to try to achieve what he has already done many times before. He will ride again for sure I just hope he knows when its time to hang up those boots. and not one corner to late. I would hate to get to the stage when people say he is racing like Rossi of old or is it now just an old Valentino Rossi. One of the greatest ever, if not the one!!

High side has to be the nasty one you don't want to do at any speed let alone 180 plus. He's been around that corner a million times and possibly a lot faster than that, but that one got him. Racing bikes doesn't always make sense.

I've been wondering what part, if any, the electronics (which Rossi never seemed to like) might have played in kicking him off the bike in that crash. Any thoughts? -bg

Looks to me like he hit something, maybe some fluid right at that one spot....that rear tire skipped out just enough to change the frame direction...it definitely lost it's grip. The other guys made it through just fine.He was straight in and lined up ALMOST when his tire let go.That's what I'm seein.Methinks he's not gonna let this stop him.At those speeds, one slip in the wrong spot and it's bye-bye.At least it was "only" a fractured leg....not a head-on on the street.I'm happy he didn't get worse.God Bless him!Lots of torque and hp,light machine...ya....very risky. He's got huevos that's fer sure.(they all do!)That's one reason I prefer my heavier zx,you can only take er so far and she's pretty predictable.I'd probably get killed on a liter bike.

It's nice to see the operation went well. Time will tell about any residual damage like nerve damage or muscle cramp off the bone attachments.

I broke my tibia 3 years ago. Operation went well. Had plates and screws removed a year later. My right leg speaks to me still. The problem 4 me is I never know when that sharp spike is going to shoot up the leg. My confidence in the right leg has never returned. But I keep telling myself it's fine.

A brand new YZ-450 sits in my garage with zero miles on it. The reason is that I'm scared to start it. I'm sure I could but what if ???????? Kick back ? Will my leg break again ? Point being the fear never leaves my mind.

Hub your description must come from experience.

first time he really had a serious enough injury and it might get inside his psyche. And then it may not.

Fingers crossed.

Here is what his leg may look like depending where the tibia was broken. Pray it's higher up. To many moving parts close to ankle.

Romans that hurts, funny how the mind can feel someone else's pain 10,000 miles away, Have similar photos, I suppose if you ride and live long enough we all will have them eventually.
My bike maybe able to go round corners left or right with equal degree of confidence , even my leg can with its scars and loss of function, but my mind learnt something from the experience , and will never forget it,it has changed forever.

Rossi's ultimate achievement in life, will be living long enough to grow old, just like the rest of us are trying to do.

ethin this is so true. The way he is holding his leg in the photo above brings it all home. OUCH.

At the time I thought no biggy bolt her up and on with the show. It took about a year to realize the show is different now. Now, it's a big deal.

Rossi is a young man, this won't get into his head until he goes to use the leg in the same manner he was use to. Then we will see.

I'm sure Rossi had the best doctors in the world and should have a speedy recovery. I wish him all the best. It sure would be nice to see him up on the podium again.

, but Rossi unfortunately contributed to his own demise. His own reluctance to show rookie Hector Barbera the secrets to a fast lap round the spectacular Mugello track cost him dearly.

high-sided at over 100mph when he decided to revert back to his full flying pace.

Now we have what happened.

I have been looking to see if I can find out where in the leg or should I say what part of the tibia. Hope it's not at the bottom ? No more info from the Doctors ?

Romans; Couldn't you kick that YZ over with the left leg? I did it hundreds of times on my KZ900 after I broke my right ankle.

Before your criticize someone, walk a mile in their shoes. That way, when you do criticize them, you're a mile away and have their shoes.

Maybe, but remember the kz 900 had roughly 8.5 or 8.7 to 1 compression ratio. The YZ-450 is 13.5-1. I watched this bike kick back and split the case. Warranty covered, but still scary with a gimpy limb.

Hub any more news on condition, I can find nothing new.

MotoGP world champion Valentino Rossi has been released from the hospital he was in following the surgery to his right leg.

Yamaha said that at 3:30pm, Rossi left the Centro Traumatologico Ortopedico in Florence, Italy, where he has been recovering since his crash on Saturday at Mugello.

The Italian rider was taken by ambulance to a helicopter and is now being flown to a hospital in Cattolica, close to his home, where he will meet with doctors to discuss the next stage of his recovery.

Rossi is expected to be out of action for several months following his crash.

7 seconds off top pace but still riding very quick caused a tyre to cool down enough to cause a major loss of grip for the worlds best rider, what hope have the rest got.
In the end he said it was his own fault. rider error . Maybe to much go, in the not to much go section ???
The next phase of his life is a mystery we'll have to wait and see how it will be written.

He said he got on the gas...something like that.Yeah,it doesn't take much "gas" to break those bikes loose. He'll keep going, and winning. He aint gonna let a fractured leg get in the way methinks. It'll be good as new pretty soon. What else does he love?Racing's his life for now. He's not done.

Hey Ethin...how ya doin?Any rides in recently?I'm gettin a lot more now the weather's decided to actually start acting like...well,Spring?My bike is running really well now(she keeps gettin better it seems!). Hit 33,000 miles today...she's 33.Had a fortunate deal occur today(what else is new with my rides? ).Okay...out there..cruisin real good...95,100 mph.Sweet road through the Swan Range(mountains).I'm rollin nice...got my throttlemiester set....ya....we be rockin.Nice curves, really into it.Somethin tells me..."why not stop and have a smoke?"...Ya...okay....sounds alright. So I pull off the road, park just a bit off into the trees there.Light up my cigar....FIRST.....there's a black and white goes cruisin by(goin the opposite way I had been goin)."Whew, glad I missed him"....take another drag.Look up,Now a Montana Highway Patrol goes crusin by(same deal, goin the opposite way...)....Ya..I waved."WTF".....5 minutes earlier and they'd a had a nice sweet speeding ticket for me to pay off! This same deal has happened SEVERAL times with me.Usually it happens while I'm still ridin though...I'll be blastin away, then get this "idea" to like, relax or whatever.Invariably a Highway Patrol will be comin around the next curve or somethin. He'll just miss my high speed shenanigans!.Maybe I've payed my dues?Ya think? What else could it be?Just weird/cool I say.....Anyway...I cruised home after that little break in the action there..70,85. Looked everywhere for em to be waitin on the side of the road or somethin.Nope....they were nowhere to be found!Ride fast and safe and HAVE FUN!!!!!(and don't ignore that little suggestion in yer ear!!! )

Got back a few weeks ago did a trip to the snowy mountains 5600 klm 10 days 7 bikes we all had a great time, no snow but you get that over here, No tickets we were very lucky must of gone very close a few times, some fixed speed cameras and some road side camera must of been really close.
Bike went great some of the others had a few mechanical issues but no one came of and no tickets. road one of the best roads in Auss around Mt Kosciusko national park all tight twistes about a full days ride around was stuffed at the end but corner to corner its as good as it get over here. You realise how old your getting when you are looking forward to the fuel stops for a rest, and when you get up from that coffee table you'd just like to stay a little longer.

Keep listern to that little voice old fella, sounds like it knows best!!!!

Sometimes we ride on short piece's of dirt between sections of paved road so as to link up the best twisties, but that is very rare, in that last trip I did we didn't ride any dirt in 5600klm.

Not my photo, was taken near Gloucester, New South Wales at a town we overnight at when heading south, lots of big snakes over here but this one would be bigger than most.

You have to watch out for Kangaroos and there little cousin the Wallabies. I suppose every country has its crazy critters

Romans, ya get half a bottle of Bourbon into ya, go through your leg over that YZ-450, ya managed to get it started head of into the bush down the track round the corner and hit this thing, when you wake up its wrapped itself around you, and is eating your good leg slowly boot first, now that would be a bad day. I think you should stay away from that YZ and finish the Bourbon dirt bikes are not safe.
