Oils aint oils?
11/08/15 6:33 AM

Hi Guys
I read the sticky thread but now im even more confused, any recommendations for oil please ? I ride 50 kilometres of freeway at 4krpm then 30 kilometres of traffic 4 days a week. My zx9r cant run synthetic oil due to the clutch slips, is it the same on a 14r?

You CAN run full syn in your 14.I've done it for years.Kawasaki 10/40 FULL syn.Never a problem. These discussions are cool...but the bottom line...why get something terribly exotic or overly priced when the MFG makes the quality product for it's OWN bike.I've tried a few of these other brands...NONE of em outlasted the Kawi product.Sorry.

The only time I'm wary of using synthetic is during break in. Synthetic might be too slippery to allow the motor to wear in properly. If the bike has run 3000 miles on dino oil, I would have no problem switching to synthetic. If it's JASO approved, it won't impede clutch performance.

I like Rotella T6 just fine for my bike.

I had no idea Kawa made oil ???
Im sure its not sold around here unfortunately :-( whats it called ??

Every bike shop around here sells Motol , castrol, Shell etc ,

I was thinking maybe that "Mobil 1 ,racing 4T 10w 40 " oil maybe if i can't get the Kawasaki oil.

Thanks Guys
Hugs Maddy :-)

I've only seen conventional Kaw oil and they call it Kawasaki motor oil. 10W-40. I'm sure all the bike manufactures have conventionl oil packaged with their label. Suz has it. Honda, I'm pretty sure I've seen. Synthetic race oil by Honda is called Repsol 4T but I don't recommend it. It won't stay slick for very many miles.

Grn,
I think its $48 for 4 liters which is about 4.22 quarts. A little more than what I have been paying for the Mobil 1 at O'Reilly's. With the filter and free shipping this might be on my winter shopping list.

Walmart (in the US, ? outside) has a great deal on Valvoline 4T 10w-40 full synthetic if you buy the 6 packs. Individually about $9/qt, sold in the 6 pack just over $5/qt. That's what I'm running with. Have mostly used Mobil 1 4T to this point, and also the inexpensive Valvoline 10w40 dino oil when on a short change interval.

Just bought a case (6) of 20W-50 Valvoline 4T Full Synthetic oil. Great price @ $5 per bottle. It meets/exceeds JASO2 so should be good for ZX. Will see how it perform.

After riding a couple of hundreds miles on 20W-50 Valvoline 4T Full Synthetic motorcycle oil, I have to say I am not impressed. OK, it was cheap and you get what you pay for. Previously used Castrol was much better in terms of shift feeling. The engine seems bit more noisy. I usually change oil/filter every 2K miles, but this time planning to change them at 1K miles. I would try Motul which has pretty good review every where.

Very happy with 10w40 Valvoline 4T and shifting. To say no difference between that and Mobil 1. That I've rad, 20w50 being a little thicker can cause clutch plates to stick a little more. Probably makes shifting a little more difficult.

I use the Mobil 1 4T because not only is it excellent oil, but it's readily available in the local O'Reillys and I catch it on sale for $9/qt. Cycle Gear sells it for $13 and sometimes offers a $12 rebate on 5 qts.

After riding a couple of hundreds miles on 20W-50 Valvoline 4T Full Synthetic motorcycle oil, I have to say I am not impressed.

You have to remember 20W50 is twice as viscous (thick) as 10W40 and only has 10 more points of film strength. I would only use it in the summer in a hot, desert climate.
