Non-ca fuel tank on a ca bike??
12/07/13 9:36 AM

Hi. I'm changing my fuel tank. My bike is '11 CA bike. But I received a non-ca fuel tank. My original tank have both breather hose and return hose. But the new tank only has breather hose. So I hooked the breather hose and plugged return hose for now. The bike seems ok. Will there be any problem?

Sorry for my poor english, thanks!

Keep both open. One is a rain gutter/fuel overflow vent tube. So you would send that hose down to the ground or if it rains, you wash it, or you overfill the tank, she is going to soak the frame with gas think. The other is the vent type hose inside the tank is that second hose out the back of the tank. If you overfill the tank, this will slosh out that hose. So run that hose uphill and in back of the frame, or again, straight down past the bike so you do not splash gas on the hot mufflers/headers and start a fire.

Hmmm... Seem like I got a '12 fuel tank for my '11 bike. So the Evaporative Emission Control System is different. Old System separate fuel gas ans liquid and return liquid back to fuel tank. New System cancelled return hose. So basically the liquid fuel can't go back to fuel tank now... Maybe i should run the return hose down the bike. thanks!

YW. We run a 'returnless' pump. Ours is ECU controlled. Return style was vacuum fuel demand. If the line dropped pressure, there was so much coming to maintain that demand, it was more mechanical like with a spring and diaphragm. You had a surge and then had to purge. That bleed off back to the tank was when all was back to cruising not passing. Today is more of a slowing down of the electric pump via the ECU's monitoring of the rpm and vacuum demands.

You will hear more gas cap whistling happening is that diaphragm is taking a breath. That's a good sign. Don't worry about it. Here is what happens when the tank is not vented correctly...
