Here's a little story I hope you find amusing in the original "e-mail to friends format" complete with mispellings and without the pics and video. Unfortunately, I don't "photobucket" and in any case this is a Mac and the pc drections for up/down/side loading with image codes and etc just don't compute for me......
Oh well:
took a little ride Sunday.
At the far north end of lower Kettle Morraine state forest in WI, I stopped at a gas station opposite of Knucklehead Saloon. As you can see in the pics, its all Hardley-Ableson there.
After a break, I started out south with my tail camera rolling; I cut out in front of a few Hardleys and accelerated smartly into a curve when I realized that I had not secured the camera accessories in the saddlebag. I saw a wide spot in the road ahead and pulled over to correct my mistake.
At about a 2 second count after dismounting the bike, over the rise comes Officer Friendly with his ride all lit up. I thought he was on a call; but he stops behind me as I am adjusting the camera (see vid).
He comes up and asks if I know why he stopped me............... :) :) I tell him truthfully that I just stopped; didn't know he was behind me. He was shocked! He volunteers that I was "doing 55 thru that little 30 mph turn" exiting town. Takes my license and goes to call it in and converse with HQ in his squad.
When he comes back, I ask him if he is sure he didn't have a radar return off the Hardley out in front of me. I suggested that; "them Harleys are pretty fast."
Well, that breaks him up and when he stops laughing he says: "they may be quick but this thing (my bike) looks faster!" "What is it and what is it that I am adjusting?"
I explain that I'm working on my camera which I was afraid I was going to lose because I realized just as I left town that I hadn't secured it properly and that is why I found a place to pull over asap!
He decides that he doesn't want to write me up and simply warns me to "slow it down!." I thank him for his consideration and leave before he can change his mind.
Good luck number two occurs on the divided highway Rte # 12 headed south out of WI. Hardleys again.........a whole string of (a dozen?) them are spaced and "hogging" the left lane @ 70 mph. Right lane is fillled with car traffic spaced out nicely but overlapped by the Harley parade in the left lane. Now, I had been trapped behind these hogs for the last ten miles where Rte #12 is single lane and I wanted to get around them soon. So when the last hog had passed the trail car in the right lane, I twisted the throttle and passed them all on the right and got back left in front just before overtaking the next car up in the right lane. This little maneuver put me at over 110 mph and I was just settling into a 95-100 mph tuck when around another curve there sits a state cop in the center meridian service turn-around with his radar going. He was scoping the traffic going by im in the northbound lanes. He looks up and gives me a stare as I chop the throttle and sit up into the air stream thereby cutting my speed to about 70 as I go past him. No way he could get his radar over onto me, fortunately.
Great weather, very good roads and ride, but a little too exciting for this old man what with the close calls with the boys-in-blue. I was thinking of buying some carbon Muzzy slip-ons for the bike but maybe a radar detector should be a priority?
Hope you had a good week-end.
