put a few more miles on her
12/02/13 12:45 PM

I took my two ladies ( ZX and girlfriend ) out for a short 90 mile ride yesterday. It was a little cool but it was sunny and I was off so it was a go. We ended up at Morrow Mnt. This is a beautiful place around the Uwharrie mountains. Kawasaki hit a grand slam with this bike! It has it all. Power, good looks, very comfortable, and handles fantastic for a bike of it's size. I couldn't be happier with my decision to buy this wonderful motorcycle.

I'm very much enjoying mine too.I know it's got to be nice living around mountains and beautiful county like that with the twisty roads to ride on.Bout all there is around here is flatlands with pine trees and cotton fields.I know some groups go to the Georgia mountains just for the twisty roads and beautiful scenery.

Fieldgrade, do you live in south Georgia? The Uwharrie's are a very old mountain chain and are worn waayyy down. I think the highest elevation in the chain is only about 1100 feet but it is still a nice ride. I am about 1.5 hours away from the blue ridge mountains. By the way, your new exhaust looks good. Are you starting to like them any better?

I am in south Georgia near Savannah so it's basically flat.I still think the exhaust are a too loud but I've found my helmet seems to "amplify" the sound so they may not be quite as bad as I'm thinking.I appreciate the compliment on them and will let you know how the baffles work out when they get here.

Bobby, you are right...Morrow Mnt is a beautiful place and the area offers great riding.
ZX14man, smatlock, Grn14, thank you for your kind words. smatlock, I see you have an 86 FJ 1200. I still have my 85 FJ 1100 I bought back in 85. It is tucked away in my parents basement and is still in good condition. As for my 14, I have a whole 117 miles on it now haha! I want to get the first 600 mile service done before Daytona in March. Anyone else here going to Daytona for bike week?

Fieldgrade, have you ever used ear plugs when you ride? I use them when on longer rides to cut the "wind noise" out. They really help, if you have never used them you may want to give them a try and see what you think.

Glad you're enjoying that fine looking bike.I'm ashamed to say but I noticed when I put on my helmet it makes the noise twice as loud.Tried riding it without helmet but couldn't really tell so let the mechanic (only person near me that rides) ride it and they actually sound good listening to it from a spectator point. It is loud at idle but nowhere near the awful sound under the helmet.I'M AND IDIOT!Helmet has very good vent and should be great in the summer but winter, with all the vents closed it's got too much air flow.Sound just amplifies under it and I was thinking others heard that "extremely loud" sound I was hearing.Appologies to Two Brothers for making that statement about their product.I feel like an ass now.I will look into the ear plugs as well. And,it's also an inexpensive helmet so that's got alot to do with things I'm sure.

A helmet can amplify certain tones...I use Hearos...snug em down in the ear canal...they work awesome...HOWEVER...if you don't get em in there right...the low tones of the exhaust mixed with the wind tone...it can hurt actually.Worse than no plugs. So you have to get em in there snug and right. The silicone ones that you form with your hands into a ball and place into but not down in the canal...those work very well also. You can mold em to sit flat inside your lid(in your ear)....you might like those...

Stock exhaust...you may not need plugs...IDK...I removed my stock cans right away after getting my bird.

And to you Bill...you might want to consider getting a Radiator Guard screen...Cox Racing has em....nice insurance.Fitment's excellent.

RE: FJ1200

I was way in lust with the FJ back in the day, but alas I had no $ back then and could only dream about owning one.

I am making up for it now!

In the stable:
