I'm looking to replace the battery on my 2012 zx14r. Any recommendations? Battery Plus has one, but IT retails for $110. I'm hoping to spend less than that.

I performed a search and didn't find anything under "battery replacement".

While Lithium is a very common element in the Earth's crust and therefore should be abundant, there are only a few companies that actually refine it. There are also only about three manufacturers making commercial cells that are widely available worldwide. This is why all these Li batteries look and perform about the same. They just buy the cells and assemble the battery in their unique packaging.

Call Yuasa, or buy the same brand OEM over the counter if not on line. Good'ol reliable lead acid bat cherry bomb, cough, I mean... You''ll see.

The speedcell seems to be pretty good.

I have used and liked the speedcell brand in the past. The only drawback I found with the speedcell is you can't let them freeze. But my bikes live in my garage and don't get that cold. I am currently running the stock battery in Priscilla for 10000 trouble free miles thus far. When I do replace I will most likely go back to speedcell. But I have no reason not to dislike the stock or Yuasa stuff. Always been excellent performers.

We do use lithium batteries in a device we all paste next our heads without too many ill results.

My recommendation would be not to buy from Batteries Plus, they are way too expensive.......

Question I have is, does it need one? did you let it run down? wont start? no tender on it when sitting?

Other than my battery failure under warranty (had a hole in it near the posts), these batteries usually last 4-5+ years.

Agree with Hub. Go oem type. Unless your a racer and need the weight savings of the shorai.

ALSO. Your profile doesn't say where you are, but if the season is about done with; maybe wait until spring to buy a battery. Otherwise you'll loose the first 5-6 months of a year warranty while it sits this winter.

Thanks for the responses! I'm in Aurora, IL. Yesterday, I left the lights on and the battery died. I put a battery tender to it, and this morning the light indicator was still solid red (indicates charging). Everytime I've used this charger, it will charge a battery in a few hours.

I turned the key, and the lights were super dim, and I can hear the bike trying to do stuff. Just seems easier to replace the battery.

The cheapest I can find is by Yuasa, model number YTX14-BS. The cca is 200. Will that work?
I'm going for cheap because I may end selling the bike soon as well.

Yuasa about $69 free shipping on amazon, also if you are selling the bike ans want a good cheap battery,see if wall mart still sells them, don't remember the cross refrence number though ...

Story goes like this.

14 is [literally] how many hours you charge it @ 1.4amp hours. Think balance are the numbers.
12 is how many hours it will take to bring the battery up from the dead, but we now need a 1.2amp battery rated charger.

We hook up a 1.2ah charger on a 12N14A/BS battery? No. Look at your numbers. 12 means volts. 14 means amp hours. So to find the right charger, throw the decimal point over to the righthere in the middle and you have your rated battery charger.

Say you 1.4a charge a 12N12A? You need to monitor the heat and time is all. If you had a 10a~2a car battery charger, the 10a is for 'fast start?' All that is going to do is boil the chemical process faster. So, yes, you better be the baby formula out the bottle on the back of your hand or keep touching that battery @ 10a: we are in it over an hour say? If it gets hot, time to 2a the toggle switch over to that number and cool it down or buckle the parts inside: the plates touching meaning.

Say you 1.2a a 12N14A? No. Look at the balance. You'll never bring the 14a up to its full charge. Back to keeping an eye on the balance you go messing with batteries.

BS stands for 'battery acid supplied.' This way, you have a fresh battery no matter how long the shelf life say. So when you fill that dry battery, let the liquid soak in a few hours before you plug it up to a charger. This is your first step.

If you want a longer lasting battery, there's a few more steps, but you're selling it. Don't know if you want to spend the time on the battery's longevity, but this is the quick and dirty.

1st gen takes a 12N 14a battery.
2nd gen switches to a 12n 12a. So size matters.
