helmets
02/27/10 2:53 PM

Anyone have any experience with HJC?Compared to a Shoei or Arai?I'm not completely satisfied with the performance of my Arai Profile-it's quite noisy and the wind blows right into the face area even with the shield fully down.

Blue I have two Hjc helmets. I use them 4 snowmobiling. Heavy but I would not describe them as noisy. I could weigh them if you want and post some pics. HJC now offers a Carbon Fibre that looks like the one you have posted above only Black. Is the one above carbon fibre and now in blue ?

Blue, I have the Venmar CF lid and it is a very very nice product, although quite $$$. Excellent airflow system, and I think pretty stylish. It fits very snugly, without being uncomfortable, and the design around the bottom of the helmet seals off the wind quite well. This may sound strange, but compared to Arai helmets I've had, it feels smaller inside as if the shield is closer to your face with less open space. I think it is physically smaller outside as well, not to mention lighter.

I haven't wore the hjc cf but, I have a friend that has one. They are very light, not realy quiet, and the clear over the cf started bubbling up after about half the summer. He wouldn't recomend them.

Scorpion makes nice comfortable helmets for cheap but the durabilty of the outside finish is not a s good as Shoei or Arai.

Thanks again all for your good comments.PAZ-what size are you wearing-I wear an x-small in the Arai Profile.(6 and 7/8ths hat size).I've been considering that Vemar for a while now.I don't know what happened with my Arai-but it just seems more noisy nowadays, and as I said-the wind blows right into the eye area-with the vents shut and the shield fully down.

I wear an Arai Vector size XXL. My head shape is Intermediate Oval (see http://www.webbikeworld.com) and this is one of the only ones that fits without feeling completely off. I guess this is more important for me than most because my head shape is not typical. I love my helmet, along with the DefogIt I bought from Amazon which makes the visor completely fog-free (never seen anything like it). I also prefer the Arai helmets because of the research I've found regarding impact testing. I was involved in a wreck with one (got another one of the same) and I could see where the initial impact load was spread/spidered across to the rest of the helmet - very cool. I'm really not sure I could feel safe in another helmet after watching their demo's/Snell rating info. My two cents...

Blue, simply put I have a big head. I wear the same size in Venmar Eclipse C1.01.01 (CF) as I did with my previous Arais (Profile or Corsair) - XXL. When I measured my head it was in the middle of their size range for the Venmar XXL.

When it comes right down to it, proper fit is what counts the most. I can't where Arai, I guess my head is more round. 4 me Shoei will always me my Favorite. I still have a RF-1000 4 sale if any one needs it.

I just bought a RF1100, worth the money if you ride alot like I do! You know what they say a cheap one that fits right is better than a pricey one that don't.

To much to list!

lol I just want to say first. I do not have any of theese brands you where talking about, but The Joe rocket helmets are made by HJC. lol which are made buy SHOEI. All parts interchangeable.MY buddies have theese helmets and one fits the other like a glove parts wise right down to the cheek-pads. I ride Icon and Suomy helmets the Icon is mid line old-school mainfame was around 200.00 http://www.sandhillspowersports.com/sandhills/OnlineStore. The Suomy I got from DINNIS KIRK its a Spec 1R they go right around 450-500 in the solid like mine more for crazy colors GOT mine on ebay for 59.00+ shipping lol no other bidders, but the quality is first rate hands down I think they are the lightest out there like 2.9lbs or 3.0 something like that. They also have anti-fog coating on there shields which come in a mulititude of colors and iridums Red, black, Blue. I like the Icon for the style factor and they just hit the market with two new helmets they look sweet the AIR frame Carbon-life-form in two colors and the air frame Sacrifice they have a crossover helmet as well I am not by any means pluggin them I just like their style every company now has skull helmets thanks to them but like any thing to each-his-own get what fits. I know there are not many choices in BLUE but you can allways do custom paint its not to bad price wise and as for price you get what you pay for, if you'll pay 10-20 GRAND for a bike 200.00 for boots 300 on a PC it would not make sence to put a 200.00 buget on your head ...just my two dollar bill...xxx's

I have a round head like Romans... After measuring (following Arai's measurement video), I decided to go with a Quantum 2. It fits perfect although I did need to get slightly thinner cheek pads. No complaints so far!
