Appreciate answer ASAP.

I'm fairly certain it does, unless you buy the unlimited license. In other words, they don't want you getting the basic package and tuning all your buddies bikes. Early adopters didn't have this restriction, IIRC.

Quote right from woolich "This product comes with 1 Bin File Definition Key allowing you to tune 1 ECU's as many times as you like. Additional Bin File Definition Keys are required for each additional ECU's and can be purchased from within the WRT software."

additional bins are 100. launch control and other options cost more too.

It doesn't lock it to that software or PC. It registers it to your Woolich account profile. You could log into it from anywhere in the world and alter your settings.

I think this is how it would work. Each WRT installation (perhaps by your login) would require a separate BFD key. So you buy a WRT software yourself it comes with one key. That key gets used when you flash your ECU. Then you decide to try SuperBomb's flash service. They have to buy a seperate key to flash your same ECU.

I'm not sure how it would work in this scenario. You and your friend buy WRT package, each for your own bikes. You create an account. You're over at your friends house and your friend figured out something that you just can't wait to try. So you login to his WRT software with your account, not sure if it's tied to the unique installation key or your account. My guess is you would not be able to work with your ECU at your friends house even logged in as your account into the WRT application.

Yes you would Vic. The ECU is linked to your account. Your keyed ECUs are verified once you login and you are granted access to those BINs. You'd be able to use your buddies computer and software under your login and flash away.

Source: I own a copy of WRT and use it regularly from different computers.

To my knowledge It's a fact. Woolich software belongs to Justin Woolich alone. What you are buying is the use of his software. For use you have to pay a fee. Once you flash with woolich software your ECU information is only visible to those who have paid to have use of the same software. Make sense ? Yes your ECU is locked to woolich software. No one else's software can see in. Or so he hopes.

If you have paid for the use of the software, you have account to use as you see fit. Login, use your password and you're good to go. Really very simple to use. I have computers in the garage, in the house, in my truck etc All ready to flash wherever I am.

Woolich does not want you to steal his hard earned software that is all. No biggy. Go for it.

Do you need the internet to flash once you're all set up. IE can you make changes and flash at the track with no internet?

Thanks

I don't use Woolich currently but if you have the software on your laptop, I'm sure you can change whatever numbers you want at any time. Pretty sure you would need to pull the ECU out to do so. Probably the only thing the internet can do for Woolich software is update it. You probably would have to log in and download updates and then install. It is probably very much like using Dynojet equipment with DJ software except you have control of much more stuff with Woolich.

So does your factory flash get stored so you can return to stock say you sell your bike or trade it in? Similar to a programmer used on a car/truck. Or would you need to buy another bin file key? I'm considering going this route myself.

Interesting point. The answer is NO. Once you flash, you have removed the stock settings. In fact, you have changed the "language" the ECU programming is written in. Woolich language is not the same as Kaw language. A Kaw tech would immediately recognize a flashed ECU without even knowing the settings. It no longer works with Kaw software...only Woolich. Of course, it is totally possible to restore the ECU to Stock settings in Woolich language. Any good tuner would know what numbers to put in. It is no longer and will never be a stock ECU though because it is no longer in Kaw language. Diagnostic work can't be done using Kaw software either and the warranty is nullified. Would work just the same as a stock ECU though (or at least you would hope).

Flashing has also been known to freeze an ECU. It's worthless after that. Not common but has happened. Romans has a very generous policy in this situation which is not just one reason to go with his flash.

The way around all that is get a second ECU and use it for flashing instead instead of your own. You could get one on Ebay used and although an unflashed ECU would be the safest, i don't see why buying a previously flashed one would be so bad since you're just going to flash it again anyway.

Ok that all makes sense. It's gonna be awhile before I do anything. Still not sure which route I'll go...

IMO the only reasons to get a 2nd ECU is if you want to maintain the warranty or do some comparisons. It could potentially be an issue if you were having the bike serviced and for some reason the tech had to directly interrogate the ECU beyond just reading codes. Most likely at that point the concern would be the ECU itself anyway. In warranty situations, a flashed ECU opens up a fairly significant grey area and about anything could be blamed on the modified ECU.
