Good to change oil and filter regularly on a new bike? Not sure of what I'm seeing in the oil pan, but those look like some pretty serious chunks?

Make sure that you smear a little motor oil on the new filters O-ring. Next time, it will come off easier.

Other than what looks like a broken .380 ACP shell that is normal.

Loads of good filter tools available to turn it into a 10min job. I've found the best type are the filter socket type, like the OEM one.
Kawi has a very high torque setting for the filter, 13 ft-lb. I always go with what the manual says. Some guys don't do it up that tight, but I'm guessing there has to be a really good reason why they'd have the filter on that tight.
As ZEROPILOT said, be sure to smear the new seal with fresh oil, and also partially fill the filter with fresh oil before spinning it on.

I figured out my problem. The bike was on the kick stand. Rear stand no problem. Will be changing the oil again this weekend. Should be at 1k miles.

Those big chunks in the pan was from me destroying the oil filter. Hopefully this next oil change things look and go easier.

It's still a bit of a job to get the filter off if you tighten it half a turn past contact. I never torque mine and it never leaks.

I had to destroy my first filter that was put on either by the factory or dealer. I had the proper tools and it would not come off without ripping a hole in it. Somebody likes to WAY overtighten them.

I've got a tool made by "BLUE POINT", the cheaper "Snap-on" brand. Its a 64mm cap wrench that fits over the filter and hooks up to a 1/2" drive extension and ratchet. It's thick, forged aluminum. It'll twist a filter like a screw before it slips and works very well at getting off robot installed oil filters. Look for a size that says it's for Toyota and Lexus. It's THAT size...and don't buy the cheap stamped steel type. They wont give a lot of torque before slipping off.
