06-07 ECU flash
01/07/13 7:49 PM

CLICK

For $375 a pop. Is it worth it or not.
My main reason for getting this would be the top speed limiter removal. I rather not deal with a speedo healer. I'm planning to do some speed event. I have e-mailed Brock's Performance, asking them to explain to me what they mean by saying that their flashed ECU is a complement to their maps and pipes. I will post their answer here tomorrow.

I will post their answer here tomorrow.

Curious if decell pop or fuel cut on decell is repaired in this flash ?

You will see a bit more kick with this flashed ECU...It is most likely the same flash as the 14R...minus the KTRC of course.Using his mapping,PCV,he most likely will send the pair block off plug with it as well.If yer bike hauls azz now...and responds well...I'd save my money...knowing what I know now.It is nice having a few 100 more rpm...if that's what ya like...and the top speed removed...but you can get that with a Healtech V4 Speedohealer.....something to think on anyway.I won't get my new bike flashed....doesn't need it.Yours sounds pretty trick already....

Healtech does NOT make a speedohealer for the 14R.I already spoke with em previous to getting the Brock's/Guhl flash. But every previous year...yes.And it's very simple to work with...retains the gear indicator and all that.Adjusts the mileage accurately as well.So you're not just getting an adjusted speedo and that's it.

With my 14R...and his mapping/flash/airbox plug...I got seriously minimal popping...I HAD to throttle her just right at the right time(rpm, throttle, gear position) to get a small pop....nothing like backfiring all the time. Was very 'quiet'.

I've asked, we will see what they say.

I'm not sure because Brock says that all you need for the pair block off mod is the red cap that comes with his pipes and block the air hose going to the air box.
Yeah if the rev can be raised a tad without sacrificing reliability, I'm all in.
The speedohealer is a good, relatively cheap mod but I heard a few stories about water getting to it etc. Also conserving a live and somewhat accurate speedo reading is a plus.

Brock's Performance are 5 stars in customer service so I should have an answer tomorrow am.

Well...on the 14R...there's TWO hoses going to the airbox. He sends a red plug for the left hose.IDK about the earlier models...how many hoses they have going in.I think just the one on the right.So...no matter really....long as it works!

"but I heard a few stories about water getting to it etc"...you know that anyone can ruin anything if they go about it right;)I personally NEVER sprayed water anywhere NEAR any electrics on my bikes.RARELY did I take em to a car wash....except if I got caught 'out there' and the mud was flyin.Even then,I never sprayed bearings or electrics. My speedohealer went 50K miles without a hitch on my 07.Guess you could always spray it with some lacquer or something similar if you were worried? They work good...mine did.

"decell pop or fuel cut on decell'...apparently,he doesn't touch the fuel tables...according to what the site says anyway. However,he adjusts the mapping(fuel tables) somehow...so I wonder how THAT happens?LOL!!!!Things that make ya go....'HUH?"

Ignition timing...yes...that will be changed.

You know...this whole 'flashing deal' didn't appear(to my knowledge)UNTIL the 14R came out. Then it was the next big thing.Suzuki flashing...yes...it was here already. But the ZX?I never heard of it in all the forums and posts I've read throughout the 7 years of owning a Kawasaki 14.I would say...be cautious about raising your rpm limit on your bike. The truth is...some HAVE thrown rods and spun bearings.Maybe from continuous bouncing off the limiter...or whatever. If your bike is doing fine and you're happy with it...shit...change gearing or something...see how that works for ya.You might be surprised without the rpm limits being raised.?????I think with your mods...a 16/43 gearing switch would put a big ass smile on yer face....It did mine anyway.

Yeah gearing is on the list... at some point. Probably when I slap a pair of BST's

You should put a set on that white 14 R!

Gearings fun with a dyno tuneand Brocks pipe.Mine pulls to 10,500.Don't see the need for more.I rarely hit 9 grand.Maybe this year I'll wind her up in every gear.Allways been a little apprehensive about that.Want to get more agressive this year.
Craig

Really, I touch 9 grand early and often. On my way to work and every time I go somewhere, I allow some extra time for fun detours. I'm addicted to that rear wheel spin. My last ride back from work I stayed @ 150 for a while. Something about the CT-Duals bouncing off the ramp walls. I had to slow down and exit the highway. I would see the back of a car and it would be in my mirrors before I could determine whether it's LE or not. I'll do the opposite this year less aggressive but at least five track days to release the steam.

I'm planning to do the Texas mile, that's where the extra RPM might come handy

dragking:ECU flash For $375 a pop. Is it worth it or not.

I say YES...IMO its worth it, based on your description of how you ride, you will notice the difference.

I can say...I had two ECU's...one with the Brock's/guhl flash...the other, stock. The stock ECU was smoother than the Brocks. The amount of 'flash' didn't cause an earthshaking experience.I'd have to say....the secondary removal did more to the quickness than any of the flashing did.Add a Rifleman's 1/5th throttle mod....and it was fairly quick responding.Would I do it again?...no.IF I could get a flash that would retain the smoothness as factory...yes...I would do it.But something gets(or got)lost by flashing mine.Maybe they've got that corrected now...IDK.I tested mine back to back...there was a difference in smoothness. Not terribly...but enough to make me go back to factory. All 'testing' done with a Brocks full ti 4 into 1 system and Flashed ecu with Brocks mapping on the PCV.I liked it...but not enough to keep it in there. It may have been something as simple as the timing table(s)...Guhl used the 'secondary' timing table with mine.Apparently...there's two usable timing tables he can switch to.There was virtually NO decel pop either....VERY RARELY did I get one.And I had to 'try' to make that happen.IT's good mod...you wouldn't be disappointed I don't think.I won't be doing it again though.Gonna just add some Yoshis and call it good...see how that works out.Think I'll leave the secondairies in there this next time out.

my stock gearing topped out at just at the raised rpm limits(11,700)...190 something. The speedo on the 14r remains accurate throughout the revvrange...so that's a plus. The MAIN thing I noticed right away...was the standtill takeoff performance. With mine...the off throttle to 4k was 'slightly' better with the flash...but not enough to go WOW!It 'sharpened' that small rpm area 'somewhwat'...in a drag style takeoff..anything above 3k and drpping the clufch...you wouldn'y know it was there IMO.

There was also an issue with the feuling prformane that 'took away' from havig really clean prouct. She ahd a tedency to surge at low rpms...with I really didn't like.He remapped for me...and that 'almost' got it gone...but not completely.

Ok, the gains aren't as big as I thought they would be and there is no deceleration popping removal on 06-07 generation with the flash. Since the fuel tables aren't messed with no tune is needed after the flash.
Turn around time is 3 days plus shipping back and forth.
Like SparkyG mentioned the extra 500 RPM would allow for some breathing room, especially if I initiate gearing change at 10,500 RPM. The top speed removal is also a good selling point for me! I'm going to be anal and get a custom tune on the bike. If I can milk 3-5 hp it'll be worth it in my opinion. Also, I will be able to tell where peak power is exactly, which is probably going to be pass 10,500 RPM. Next time, I'm doing upgrades or maintenance on the bike, I will probably send my ECU in.

I wasn't able to upload the graph they sent me but I saw a 2hp advantage from 5200 RPM which remains constant until redline.
Max HP: 193.61 Max Tq: 97.99 (with reflash)
Compared to
Max HP: 191.15 Max Tq: 96.75

Mods were: o-ring less chain, Factory Pro Short Stacks, CT-Single and probably 0 weigh oil.

Like I said power gains are minimal, and one could argue that the gains came from the velocity stacks. The extra 500RPM and the top speed removal are undeniable though. As far are bolt on mods go, I'm already maxed out. So I'm not surprised that 1 additional HP is going to cost me $100. The only things I have left are: Wheels, Gearing (maybe) Custom tune, Velocity Stacks and ECU flash
