The absolute best for what you do (ride touring style with Dad a lot) is the Michelin Pilot Road 2 (or 3 if you can get and afford them).

Study up the Pilot Road 2 on the internet, they are fantastic. Hard rubber in the center, for putting lots of sport touring miles in, soft rubber on the sides, for cornering.

I'm guessing 1 out of 4 of the guys with C14s in the Concours Owners Group (COG) run Pilot Road 2s. I've got them on my ZX14, because I ride pretty much the same way they do. Tons of miles on regional roads, not really many tight corners, just riding all day from dawn to dusk to get somewhere.

When I take the luggage off, and want to fly around in the mountains, the Pilot Road 2s hold in the tight curves just fine.

Best of both worlds. Juat a tad expensive.

So if Road 2's are the best for all purpose, what about the best stickiest tyre from peoples experience on the 14 for tearing up those twisties and not worrying about milage or the family budget lol?? I'm running road 2's now but wouldn;t mind some real soft compound next set just to really push the limits?

I heard a lot of good things about the BT-016 from Bridgestone. Lots of guys run them for track days and many run them on the street. They are definitely sticky.

This review was written in 2008, so they've been holding their own for quite a few years. Must be good. Lots of guys who are members of this forum run them, but may not post.

I've ran 5 sets of the 016's, but, now running the 003rs' and LOVE them! They aren't a high mileage tire though. They have better turn in than the 016's.

Thats what the pro's say too, Jeffe. They came out to replace the BT-002 track tire.

Review, below. They spent most of the day on a track, which is where the BT-003 are at home.

I'd go with the BT-016s because the -003s are just too soft for the street. When Jeffe is talking about -003s turning in better than -016s, he is talking about on the track.

Most of us never go on a track day. I used to go almost every weekend when I lived near Sears Point and Laguna Seca in CA decades ago. Back when I was young enough and limber enough to do it. Too bad we didn't have -003s back then...

on my R1 i likes michelins.....tried the Dunlap Q2's..and by far they were better than the pilots in my opinion as far as feel, grip and wear. on my zx14 i am liking the bt016 very much..still have the stocker on the front but getting ready to put a bt016 on the front.

IMO on this bike the only tire that is good on this bike is any tire as long as it's new!!!!!

Mine went about 6,000 and yes, they are worn all the way out to the sidewall edge. Heh.

Still some tread on them, but not enough for rain, so off they went last weekend for new PR2s.

I ordered a set last night... Can't wait to try them. I've heard some very good things. They will be replacing Bridgestone bt016's, which have been my tire of choice for about three years now.
