Looking for a motorcycle lift.
09/04/17 5:52 PM

Anyone have a lift that they can recommend? I started looking at them and there's a lot to choose from and a wide range of prices. I don't know what brand names are best to consider. I don't know a thing about them actually.
I don't want an air powered unit because of garage space. I don't know the pro's or con's of hydraulic, electric, or pneumatic powered units. I'd be happy with a basic unit that holds the bike securely and(I assume)can be used with my Pit Bull wheel lifts.
I don't need something fancy or super fast, just a dependable lift that my bike is safe on. If electric, it needs to operate on 120 volts. Thanks for any help or what to look for.

so you're talking a platform type lift? Not stands. I only have used stands but I would get an Abba skylift if it was cheaper than a platform lift. and I think it probably is.

I bought a Heindle center lift stand. And also a Pitbull forward facing handle rear lift.AND a pitbull front pin stand.Lifts from the steering stem, not the wheel. They work great.

Okay...yeah,I see that now Rook...good catch!

Self contained, foot pump style... no air, no electric, just needs a foot. This is the style I have. My lift company is out of businee, so I made my own gaskets out of the rubber head cover off the 14. Remember too, I bought mine back in the late 70's and the seal finally wore out. This will last quite a long time so jump on it. It's a steal.

I'm sure that's less than the cost of a Skylift. If I didn't have a few other things I wanted to get for the bikes, I think I'd grab that.

Thanks for the replies.
Hub, thanks for the pic of that lift. My only question is about the front wheel brace. Compared to others I've looked at, the brace doesn't look as secure and there's no padding to protect the wheel surface. I could make my own padding. The braces on other lifts hold the front of the wheel, while this one holds at the bottom.
Is the brace on your lift the same? Plenty of room for the discs?

No, KAK, mine has a bare top. No stop rail, no front wheel clamp. You really don't need it if using a rear stand, or center stand.

That thing looks like it pinches the tire and the bent rod stops it from rolling off. I wouldn't trust it to hold a 14 up. Bolt a Harbor Freight wheel chock on there or use stand(s).
