DVT
09/02/20 9:21 AM

Hello gents.
So yesterday I spent 7 hours down in Redding getting my swollen right leg checked out
Even got an Ultrasound at a pregnancy center. ( found out I'm having twins)
It turns out I have a"DVT" which I thought meant a "Direct Variable Transmission"
What it actually means is a "Deep Vein Throbosis" or a blood clot
behind my right knee. Doctor was pretty concerned because it can move to the lungs, heart
or brain. Now I can probably function without my brain but I need the others. He immediately put
me on Elequis. Which retails at $500 a MONTH ! Luckily the pharmacist noticed my CVS Caremark card
which reduced the price to $50 a month. Even though I was in a Rite Aid pharmacy.
Would have sucked to croak right after I retired.
Anyhoo, take care of yourselves.

Clots are bad and not to be taken lightly , good you got in for a checkup when you did.. When you talk to your dr, you might ask if 2 Bayer aspirin would be equal to teh elequis as a blood thinner.. Just a suggestion from my experiences.. No dizzyness from aspirin but some side effects to elequis that you might want to pay attention to..

Warfarin/Eliquis... welcome to the club. I'm not a member, I know someone on the generic too. Stay out of the heat. It's for life, right? Tylenol rather than aspirin. No cooking with a sharp knife, no crashing.

Yeah, whenever I mention Bayer, someone always says Tylenol o Ibuprofin.. Never looked into the difference.. 30+ yrs of 1 or 2 Bayer a day, sometimes a couple more if working long hours .. Just had a complete physical done with blood tests , cat scan, They looked at everything.. All organs are in excellent shape , well except for slightly enlarged prostate but I can live with that :)..

Since we are talking health.... You guys getting lil older need to really watch your water/electrolyte intake . Recommended amount from one source is half your weight in ounces. In other words I weigh 124 pounds so my recommended daily intake is 62 ounces.. Until recently I rarely did over 40 ounces a day..very bad , makes everything work harder...Twice now within a year, I have had bad dehydration.. the first one did not teach me , the second one did...

Chrly, I asked about pills for headaches and the dr came back with Tylenol not aspirin. Probably makes it too thin and might bleed one out. I think Mad is going to take the self blood tests and call them in. So if you look up the coumadin/warfarin generics, there is a list of greens to stay away from. Green tea and booze for liquids counter the drug... thickens the blood back up. It's a change of diet, Mad. But this one likes a glass of wine or a light 7&7. Not everyday however.

Don't know how much the dr told you, Mad, but it takes a few months and then a needle prick on a finger, the machine reads the blood within a couple of seconds and you can tell if you are within range. Like a 2.7 might be in range. 3 is out of range and now the cutting of half a pill for a day or one more during the week, and then check again within two weeks. It used to be every two weeks, but now it's once a month.

I can't remember that book I read, but it was some guru talked about lemons and it would clean his arteries was the deal on that. And low and behold, studies show lemons do breakdown the clots.

Yeah. Doctor said to take double doses of Eliquis for a week then go on a maintenance regimen. Said I could be on it for a year. I've got to say, results so far are pretty amazing. Swelling way down. Leg feels better. No side affects I can notice. I do have to avoid cutting myself. Which means no more chainsawing
in shorts I guess. ( Just kidding boys)

Ill keep you posted how I'm doing
.
Yannih, even if I'm pushing up daisies ill still come back to haunt you by appearing in your bedroom at night and whispering in your ear, " Rossi is still the GOAT".

Glad you got er under control Mad. $500/month? F-ck, I'd find some other way seriously. My insurance would start paying at month 6 of every year (I think). That's why I don't use my insurance unless I'm dying. It's a shame people are forgoing healthcare to save money but that's what I have done my whole life except for when I had free poor people insurance. Then I went to the doctors like I should and it was awesome. We need that in this country. I'm not poor anymore but I still need that.

As far as the recommended intake of water, that's 12 cups for me. Maybe on a good day if I get a lot of exercise or something.

Invest in a good pair of Kelvar Chaps.
My old Army Buddy was telling me was cutting a tree that was already tiltiing to one side. He did the usual cut in the direction he wanted it to fall. But when he cut from the back side, the tree snapped backwards and a branch put a "Gash" across his head. He was able to get back to the house for help. He lives on 12 acres.

DAMN. There's so many forestry accidents. If there's one piece of equipment I'm afraid of, it's a chainsaw. Just freaks me out.

There's a lot of logging here and a lot of people who have been injured doing it. One guy died a few years back. IDK exactly what happened.
