Is it just me or does it seem like it is easier to resell a hayabusa, than it is to resell a zx14?

I was just randomly looking on ebay and other sites and noticed this. I dont plan on selling mine at all but I have noticed a couple of zx14 resilisted several times and almost all the busas have bids. If this is true can someone help me figure this one out.

Bussa's have an almost cult like following, lot's of un-informed people out there, so they are in greater demand.

Philhnnss hit the nail square on the head, Busa owner's are fiercely loyal and very clannish. They are proud of their rides and won't negotiate much on the price.....it's kinda like the Harley thing I guess! ZX-14's haven't developed the same reputation even though they are the superior machine in many ways.

Resale isn't something I'd ever worry about. I figure I've got $12k "invested" into my 14. Say I put it up for sale today for $8k but take $7k for a quick sale. So what if it was a Busa I'd get $7500? Big f'n deal!
I'll keep the better bike!

Our bikes are high dollar "toys" not "investments" anyway.

People who buy Busas and Hardleys are paying more $$$ for the persona associated with those particular bikes.

That's the spirit coolwhip, if you can afford it why not have both? I very nearly bought the exact same Busa you did, I thought that orange and black model was a real stunner. At the last minute I changed my mind and went with a new literbike. Enjoy your new toys!

I had a new Busa at one point, for about 3 months. Once I sold my R1, I got a Busa since my wife already had her ZX14. Whats sad is, and I know this might sound wierd, the Busa just didn't fit me. My wrist were always hurting, and my knees always felt cramped. I found myself riding wy wife's bike way more than my Busa. She got fed up eventually and told me to "go get your own ZX14". So I did, traded in my Busa and got my ZX14. Never have looked back.

I'm not bashing the Busa at all, maybe some of the "Cult-ish" Busa riders out there that think their poop don't stink. The Busa is a great bike, it just didn't fit me.

I paid $10,300 OTD when I got my Busa, and they gave me $8,000 trade in for it when I took it back 3 months later. Yeah I lost some money, but totally worth it.

She can put up with the dressing changes, drag ya to the Doc, but once the bike comes up in conversation is salt on the band-aid, don't start in. Tell him, Girl!

I paid OTD $3k less for my 14 New than the Busa - I looked at both.

I tried both and liked the 14 better.

When I sell it I may get less but I also paid less as well.

There both great bikes so who cares which one you get. you can have a ball on all of them. Some people love harleys for the classic look of the bikes and the community it brings. Nothing wrong with that either. If it has two wheels and an engine I will flog it AND ride with it!

Resale value maybe higher but that usually means it cost more up front. I looked at both bikes equally and i could not get a deal with a busa so it made my decision that much easier. I would have went with the zx14 anyways though because of the comfort was better and that was the deciding factor between the two.

I have a habit of keeping my bikes for a "very" long time, making a resale value a non factor when it comes to making a purchasing decision

I agree they're both fantastic motorcycles, trust me a Busa was on my short list of new rides mainly because I like the unique aero-sculpted look and trademark hump. In short the Hayabusa is a classic. My quandry came down to the fact I like the Gen I's looks better than the more portly Gen II but the Gen II's have a distinct advantage in a number of areas, power and brakes being just two. At the end of the day, I couldn't justify buying a bike that my modded 14 would likely stomp all over without spending equal bucks on performance enhancements and then have to live with the buzzy nature of the single crank balancer on the Busa and the less comfortable ergos. Performance wise the 14 and the Busa are so close you could throw a blanket over them, it all comes down to mods and rider skill. Maybe someday I will buy one and add it to the growing fleet. By the way, I'm with ZX11D on holding on to the bikes you have rather than selling for a loss. Just get a bigger garage!!

If I had the money, I would own a ZX14, a liter bike and the Busa. Busa being the last one. If I had both the Busa and a ZX14, I know my ZX14 would get ten times the riding time. Like it has been stated over and over, Busa is a great bike, but for me, it just didn't fit.

Recovery going great BG. I got 3 surgeries to go, 2 before I can get on a bike again. I'm guessing that by late summer I'll be able to start riding again.

Good points from you all i dont resell my bikes at all ... i still got my terrible carburated srad in the back of the garage. I never even looked at a busa, but road one and will never figure out how someone could buy a busa over a 14.

but thanks for the input. Overall i would rather be 1 of few, than 1 of a million.
