Frame Recall
05/07/09 9:39 AM

Did you guys that bought '06 and '07s from a dealer after the recall notice came out have the recall done before you took it home? Reason I'm asking, I just got a recall notice on the CBR (Fire Hazard: Leaking Fuel Tank Vent) that originally came out in December '07. Shouldn't the dealer have taken care of this before selling it to me? It's not like they haven't known about this for over a year now. Anyway,I'm pissed.

That shows total irresponsibility on dealers part to sell you a bike with outstanding recall issue. I would be also pissed.

Rightfully so. I'd be livid! I've never been impressed by the customer service at any big 4 dealership.
I was at a dealer not too long ago, well after the recall, that had two '07 14's sittin' on the floor uninspected (I asked). You'd think they'd be all over that sh*t. Can you imagine the lawsuit if someone's zx14 frame broke or CBR caught fire and they were injured or worse??? The dealers were/are obviously aware of these problems!

Gotta say the great experience I've had with the Duc dealer that sold me my zx10r has me, for the first time, considering a pasta rocket for my next scooter. Never thought I be thinking that.

Anyhow, look at the bright side, it's getting fixed before you or your new toy got hurt.

I just called the manager of the Honda shop where I bought the CBR thinking surely this was a mistake and there's no way they knowingly sold me a motorcycle with a potentially dangerous fuel system defect in it but guess what? That's exactly what they did. I told the guy he was damn lucky my bike didn't catch on fire and burn or he and Honda would be facing a massive law suite, you coulda heard a pin drop on the other end of the line. The recall went out on 12/14/2007 and I bought the bike on 3/12/2009,that's 16 months they had to find and correct the problem. His excuse was "it probably slipped through the cracks". My next call is to American Honda where I intend to file a complaint.

You would think that the dealer would perform the recall on ALL affected units in stock before the sale!!!! After all the dealer GETS PAID to do the recall. Why pass up "free money".

Dude that f*ckin' sucks. They shoulda already checked that sh*t! I'm pissed for you!
On the old forum, Kruz started a poll to keep track of the pass/fail rate of the recalled bikes.
There were only a few that failed. It is very unlikely that there is anything wrong with your bike.
It's cool that they came and picked it up for ya, but the inspection only takes 5 minutes. I was in and out of the dealership in about a half hour. Did you just feel that uncomfortable about riding it?...or is the dealership just givin' you a reach around?
