Lowered front fork tubes
02/25/14 6:39 AM

I dropped my fork tubes 17mm yesterday and took her for a spin. WOW what a difference! It steers so much better! So my initial read after removing the handle bars were at 23mm to the triple tree from the top of the fork tube. I dropped them to 40mm and tightened everything back up. WOW!

Some junk & stuff on my bike and a hole in my head for riding it!

You dropping the front, right? Actually, the forks are now raised in the fork clamps, right?

I have to try this. ...but how does coming down out of a wheelie work with the front lowered? any clearance problems?

"I have to try this. ...but how does coming down out of a wheelie work with the front lowered? any clearance problems?"...excellent question;)Having lowered my 07....yesss...there can be a clearance problem when lofting and landing. You'll hone your skills quickly OR be spending lots of loot on fenders;)Cranking up the preload helps...but you kinda lose the smoothness of the frontend with it like that.

I've had mine at 1 1/4" from the top of the tree to the top of the tube (stock/recommended is 3/4") for some time now and I like the quickness it adds to the steering without losing much in the way of stability. A word of caution, though; if your front suspension preload isn't cranked up and you have stock fork springs, raising the tubes will cause grounding of the bulge in the fairing in bumpy right-handers or the sidestand in lefts.

Yes and yes. It also moves front tire closer to radiator. So comr down from wheelie s and hard bummps can push tire back into radiator. So check clearance there too. I lowered mine 2". Love feel I get from the front end as more weight is placed there. But also take your weight into consideration. Will effect how low you can go with stock suspension. Will basically be compressing stock springs so you have less fork travel. Im only 180lbs so I can get away with more than most in that area. Same for lowering the rear..

I'm thinking that it may be impossible to hurt the radiator with the fender on this bike. Has anyone seen my latest drag pic? Ha ha. I'm pretty damn low.

Lol but your also not leaned over or tying to turn at speed. Say you hit that big bump on dip in the road. It will push the wheel rearward. .actually rechecked my front only raised up 1.5 inches. Forgot i had fork caps on top .

Mine are 2 1/4 past the triple clamp and I use the strap to pull the rest of the travel out of them. I have landed a few wheelies pretty hard with no ill effect. Maybe I should knock on wood? Probably just jinxed myself....

I was thinking something that might really improve the look is going with a 200/55 rear. that would make the rear a half inch taller. So then you lower 1" in the rear and half inch in the front. I think it would be noticeable without hurting performance or making it any less streetable. Might need an adjustable kick stand. Especially with a set of correzzera wheels with that .25" wider rear wheel

Did a Wheelie check and it landed just fine. No rubs or bumps. And yes the fork tubes are 17mm higher in the triple tree. It has given the turn in on corners a lighter feel. Loving it!
