Blue: this would be a good start.

But seriously, HERE is a link from ZZRBikes that depicts the TBS process. “14junkie” is the author and does a good job documenting with photos. I also have the Morgan Carbtune sync tool/meter.

If your bike is idling/running smoothly & you haven’t noticed any unusual characteristics...for the most part you are *probably somewhere near sync*. But the point is, you really don't know "if you need" an adjustment until you measure/meter your throttle bodies. IMHO, It’s just a good peace-of-mind/feel-good type of thing knowing they are balanced.

Main smoothing chaser is to have the bodies sync'd. You more begin with a valve adjust, then finish off with a sync; for these very two basic smooth movers help stop you sitting on a (((buzz-bike))).

Night and day throttle response. BTW.

I think modern bikes are generally far better, I knw back in the 80's many bikes would go out in a couple of thousand miles or less and sound pretty rough at idle.

I won't worry about mine until it sounds crappy, or the valve service comes around - even then the hardest thing is finding a dealer that actually bothers doing the job properly - thats not the same as one who charges you six hours labour but just changes the oil and kicks yer tyres

I have no clue how you can sync that little cross hair, but I can't get to it without a machine shop and a lunch napkin to come up with a tool blueprint. You gonna eat that cheese paper? You need tools already made for this or you have to literally come up with a way to find that screw.

I use a broken mirror with a rubber grommet under it, a gear drive 90° get at tool [off a tool truck with a 90° ONLY!] then attach your short Phillips size 1/4 drive system and that is not ideal, but it gets 'er done.

Think I am going to wait around to warm up a vacuum that is constant hot or cold? I have video that sync's a cold engine. My cold sync works no matter what that book says. Hot, she is smoothoused in tune.

Once I know the simple fundamental that a pressure or vacuum is a constant, I am going to open up a cold case and solve it. I don't care how long it takes you the first time, you're way better off doin it yourself. For what the stealer will charge you, you can more than pay for the special tools and you know it's done right. I've heard too many stories where the dealer charges for something and never turns a wrench. Oh sure, your TBs are balanced real good now! Wink!

I was asslow as molasses when it comes to wrenching. I woke up with erect nipples, everything was erect to go to work and not a job. I worked next to a fast mechanic/electrical wiz being he was into model airplanes, servos and whatnot.
He used to tell me to, "Fkit"... and then repeat a mechanics coin, "Ain't My Bike!" and start laughing, tapping the bike where you wouldn't see it, but I watched his crap and I just said in my head, "Ah ha." Like, sacrilegiouscorn was he. That was his world and the lambs in his bay were bleeding well enough to live and darn if he only had a few comebacks.

He'd have a few comebacks; had that grouchy old guy thing going and I liked to hear his same old complaint about his comebacks. I just did not have that attitude toward the bike. I was more book setting on your bike and just did my thing. All of a sudden I get this phone call from a lawyer...

Lawyer starts asking me questions about some GL Honda and I had serviced. The lawyer walking the evidence the cause of this crash. I was so credible, I had the lawyer laughing thinking I be neglecting, modifying, altering the bike as I just cover my ass working on your bike so I have no lawyer calling me back telling me the owner's son tried to blame it on someone like yours truly.

Did I cover my ass on every bike so I would not have lawyers telling me I have no clue how to work on a clustizzfuckrackin another bike on the lift is good luck getting to know your lawyer as a new friend. Not on my watch.

I bought the Carb Tune to sync my ZX11. Got it from England and it was not cheap. I was having really serious problems with the carbs and a great deal came up on a zx14 so I mothballed the 11. Still have to straighten out the carbs though one of these days...

The main indicator of an out-of-sync throttle body is vibrations, i'm starting to notice that at cruising speed I've got a lot more vibes coming through the bars then I used to. I'll probably just wait until the end of the season to adjust them because depending on how many miles i get on the bike this summer I will probably be close to the valve service interval and as Hub said, you want to adjust the valves first (if they need done).

Sounds like picking up the specialized tools might be worth my while, has anyone picked up the tools for syncing that they mention in the service manual? What's your opinion (worth it? waste of money?)

I was picking up vibes last summer and thought it might be throttle body synch. Anyway, I first checked the air filter and it was nearly blocked with dirt and critter parts. This was at 9K miles, book calls for 12K replacement, I'd cut that at least in half based upon my experience. She ran smoother and much better low end throttle response after the filter change but it turns out most of the vibes were coming from the drive line. It eventually smoothed out on it's own and my theory is not matching the chain back up to the rear sprocket teeth the same way after a tire change was causing the vibes i.e. individual links are slightly different in pitch from each other and this creates specific wear patterns on the sprocket teeth. It makes sense if you ever put a new chain on an old set of sprockets, it sounds like you're making popcorn back there with all the grinding and popping going on.
