Just my .02 here...the motor's fine.New harness...it'll run nicely.Nothing penetrated any internals. It rapidly stopped running. No mounts broken. It didn't take the brunt of the hit.All the outside stuff did, along with the frame structure.I'd say get another frame, new harness, and switch out your extra goodies on the 'new bike'.Seriously.Highly doubtful the suspensions are damaged.JUst switch em over.Whatever you can switch,do it.WAY cheaper than buying a used one.Plus you know the history of the engine and parts.Be a good project bike, and way cheaper.
I doubt the forks are damaged.Or the rear shock and all.Wheels are probably fine as well.
I do believe I have an 07 harness here.Connectors all intact and fine.If that'd work for ya.Free to a good home.Let me know.
It slid well before flipping. So if it did flip,it probably wasn't moving very fast.Maybe even quite slow by that time.Doesn't take much force if the tires dig in and stop a low speed slide.Which is what I looks like to me.Probably in gear,so the rear wheel wasn't turning.(thinking the motor was already stopped).Landed in softish ground,so the engine most likely never had any kind of abrupt force to it.

Looks like it laid over, crossed up and slid till the wheels could embed in the shoulder material and then it simply lifted over onto the other side.No biggie.

Thanks Greenie, I'll let you know if I need it but I think the stock harness is ok. Of course, that will require a real close inspection. Lots of plugs were yankeded out on the front without the latches being opened.

As for the crash, I think it was pretty violent but I was asleep at the time. From all the signs:
• Deer came through top cowl and busted all plastic and meter unit off.
• Either I was hit by deer and pulled left or impact with deer pulled the steering left.
• The bike went full lock left.
• Bike slammed down on RH side at at least 60 mph.
• Photo of road marks show bike was pointed nose first and was sliding on pulser cover and lower fairing.
• Dragged on RH rearset and frame slider. Frame slider broke off.
• Bike pivoted almost 90° while sliding on RH side, now sliding with top of bike pointed in direction of slide.
• Stood up on top RH edge of fuel tank with wheels in the air.
• Flipped and landed on top LH edge of fuel tank in grass denting fuel tank and breaking tail frame.
• Instrument cluster bracket dug into the grass turning it backward and then the tail light dug in.

It's possible the bike stood back up on its wheels and flipped instead of rolling up on the fueltank but if it did, it was a massive high side throwing the bike in the air. It landed on the opposite top edge of the fuel tank, not just flopping over on the side like a garage tip over. I will have to look at more of the front end damage and scrapes and dirt on the bike to make a final determination but so far, it looks like a bottom over top flip. Either way, the bike flew off the ground and fell hard enough in the grass to put a massive dent in the gas tank and knock the handlebar loose.

As far as sand, if any got in the pulser cover, the oil from the oil pan could have washed up and carried sand back to the oil pan and up to the camshafts. If the sand got into the oil pan, it would have washed into the clutch too. If sand is in there, I should find it when I look in the oil pan.

I haven't noticed any marks on the wheels. Forks look ok too but it will be hard to tell if the lower tube is bent without a road test. Maybe fitting the front wheel will tell. If upper tube is straight, should slide right into a straight triple tree.

Tail damage:

Other than the broken frame, we have a kinked seat lock cable. Not bad because it’s quite tight from the factory and it even works fine now. Should go back to normal when undertail is positioned properly. I always wanted to get rid of the lock and bolt right through a shaved down seat anyway.

Tail light bracket sure looks tweaked. I might be able to bend it back sufficiently to get the tail fairings fitting properly.

LH undertail hanger tore right off well nut where Pro-Bolt is. Ring is cracked though on top of the hanger. Probably would be ok to use maybe with some kind of ring riveted to existing plastic.

LH and RH tail pod pegs are cracked off. The RH one is still there but it’s ready to fall off.

Hey look, the pin for the rear brake master cylinder is sitting there. I think I remember the towing guy sticking it in there. The cotter pin is sheared off on both sides. Should be interesting trying to understand how that happened. Must have gotten pulled right through the brake pedal.

So, one tail frame and one undertail. Hope the stuff on Ebay is in decent shape.

Looks like it did flip. Still looking good. Buy a rawhide mallet if you don't have one. Work those bends back with the light pounding. Part of the art, Rooksteer. This will be good for you getting it back to straight.

I'm with Grn on the punched cover. If you think about it, Flipper was taking care of that energy on the bounce, the plastic hanger ring decupled is that crush at the tail end, and finally the tip-over, the crack, then the slide to a stop. No cracks at the frame like the cover, it's not damaged. Paint wrinkled at the weld marks on a steel frame? It's bent. The beauty of the aluminum frame.

! never used the seat key assembly, because I glued/safety wired some old dirt bike winkers that more stick out. Kept the cops away because they can't get me on those mini-winks. I want obnoxious. So if you use the stock winkers, you can't get to the seat lock arm. Nothing at the rear, you can slip your finger in and pull the arm the cable does.

The gas tank will off pretty soon and I'll look closer at the main frame. If you missed the pic from a few days ago, back up to p4 about 7 posts from bottom. The tail frame is cracked. If I can get one in decent shape off Ebay, it'll work. If it's bent, I guess I'd be doing some pulling and rawhide hammering. This could just end up a piec of furniture in the living room after all.

The rear 'seat frame' call it, is a bolt on. Any break won't be hammered back in place like steel. It will break off you go pounding on it. Take it to a welding shop and get it re-enforced again, that or make sure the seat frame has not been flipped also and he's piecing it out on ebay.

I'd definitely get a VERY CLOSE look at the steering stem welds and all.If you're planning on keeping this frame. It did experience some strong torsion forces apparently.Maybe go so far as to get some of that dye and a lamp for finding cracks in aluminum and such.Check down at the swingarm pivot areas. No tellin how hard that rear end hit.Enough to snap the subframe anyway.

Yeah, a broken one off of Ebay would be easy to see. A bent one, you might not know until you put the tail plastics on. Then it would be Hammertime. If aluminum were bent and then bent back, I'd expect it to crack eventually.

Yeah but from the looks of it, it was more of a top impact. I don't believe the swing arm was effected much but I'll be looking closer.

Okay Daron. So in the future WHEN you decide to ride again( )..here's how you deal with God's precious creatures.
1:A firm finger point and command.."STAY"
2:Look em straight in the eyes and say a resounding "good boy/or girl",whichever the case.In this case a gorgeous buck with a nice 6 point happenin

Gets em everytime

Be forwarned though. This technique won't work with a dear deer on the inside of a right turn..

ugh...... Grn, I don't know how you missed that one.

As for the point and utter a command technique, I may try it from the seat of my truck but there's not going to be any more close calls on the bike. No more country riding for this hombre.

The coolant leak could easily have been the overflow tube from the bottle. The pan I placed below the bike could have caught what coolant ran down the overflow tube, the pan was placed in about the right spot to do that.

I've had the bike on a rear stand for the past several days and today I noticed a wet patch on the floor under the clutch cover. There was a drop of coolant at the front bottom bolt of the clutch cover and another drop of coolant at the lip of the large return pipe where it clamps onto the thermostat housing. It seems pretty unlikely that the thermostat would have been damaged being that it's tucked out of the way and there's no signs that anything took any blows around that area.

It seems a good possibility that the leak is from the pipe getting a good pull (or press) and the seal broke between the rubber and the thermostat fitting. I haven't tried tightening the clamp yet but I guess I should do that.

Is there any risk to the thermostat or anything else if the coolant runs below the level of the thermostat? It's going to be a long time before I have that engine running so I won't be able to replenish any lost coolant any time soon. I guess coolant will drip until it gets below the level of the return pipe.

It was definitely big enough to do some damage. The next pic I have shows the ear just under the front portion of the fairing at the nose.If she somehow changed course 180 degrees,I don't see how that would be possible.

The steering damper adjuster knob is frozen. Weird, it turned in the bracket but otherwise there's no scratches. The knob's just stuck.

You'll know a bent frame when the aluminum shows up thru the paint...

I get this when I click your links.

"404. That's an error.

The requested url was not found on this server.

That's all we know."

I did an image search and I believe I see what you mean. The cracks seem to often occur near a weld or where cast parts change direction. I'll be looking it over with a fine tooth comb. Thanks Hub.

None of those links show a picture. What comes up is a white screen with a grey circle having what looks like a minus sign in it. The link in your post from the 8th is now doing the same thing.
