Bike stand - rear
04/03/11 6:10 PM

On my new 2011, I have tried two bike stands for the rear. One, a Pitbull, does not have enough reach w/o bending the fender drastically. It also is not wide enough after max adjustments. I tried another brand down at one of the local moto shops yesterday and that one too was not able to meet the width requirements. Please help. What brand will work, make/model?

Thanks

I have two that work. The first is a Heindle. It is plenty wide but I don't like the fact that the "notch" that holds the spool isn't deep enough. It tends to "climb" out when you are raising it. The second one is a T Rex. I had to flip one of the ends to accomodate the width of this bike, but it works. Kinda hard to explain exactly what I mean. I'll take some pics when I get home next weekend.

I'm not sure if my rear stand is a Pitbull or a Vortex, I'd have to go look. Had it for a long time.

When I had my stock rear fender on, it got in the way too at the beginning of the lift. I just let it flex and lifted.

Now that I have had it off, that is no longer an issue. This past winter, I didn't even use the rear stand because last winter I put a centerstand on it.

I built a center lift using a scissors jack, steel plate and the mounting holes for the center stand. I have it up right now while I'm getting my front tire changed. I've been meaning to take a pic and share but haven't had the time lately. I'm just too cheap to pay a hundred bucks for $15 worth of steel I guess.

I have T-Rex, front and rear. Adjustable width, fits the ZX14 and my son's R6. Not sure about the fender issue, I removed mine from day 1.

http://t-rex-racing.com/catalog.php?category=46 $140.00 for the set, very reasonable compared to other brands.

Edgecrusher - would really like to see that scissors jack mod.

Same problem here with the Pitbull when you still have the stock rear fender on. I plan on taking that off or modding it anyhow, so for now I just bend that pesky lower reflector out of the way and use the rear stand. Had no issues lining up the Pitbull to my rear spools, works fine.

Check out this thread:

http://zx14ninjaforum.com/messages.cfm?threadid=A1D61164-D56B-84E2-128BC11F6E33147E

I race WERA and CCS. I am sponsered by PitBull and can get you a small discount. Check the other thread above for details.

By the way, I use the Pit Bull stand, front and rear. I have no issues with them. Pit Bull actually makes a rear stand specifically for bigger sport bikes like the ZX14.

Here is the link to the forward handle Pit Bull stand:

http://www.pit-bull.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=CTGY&Store_Code=PBMSA&Category_Code=forward_handle_rear_stands

Here is the link to the Pit Bull stand built for the ZX14, as well as a Kawasaki ZRX1200/1100 or a Hyabusa:

http://www.pit-bull.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=PBMSA&Product_Code=F0082A-000&Category_Code=rear_stands

I own 9 different Pit Bull stands, including the one above designed for the rear of the ZX14. Love them all. The rear stand designed specifically for the ZX14/ZRX1200R/Hyabusa linked above does slightly hit the rear reflector at the bottom of the rear mud guard when first starting to lift the bike, but I am putting an undertail on mine very soon. The Pit Bull stand doesn't scratch or damage the reflector, it just bends the reflector in a bit when first starting to use the stand and the handle is still up in the air. With a shortened fender (remove the center rear mudguard reflector) or with a fender elimination kit or an undertail, this minor issue will not be a factor at all. You won't find a better stand than the Pit Bull. Oh, and the best part? They are American made in Huntsville, Alabama. I buy American any chance I get!

Here is a link to the Pit Bull front stands:

http://www.pit-bull.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=CTGY&Store_Code=PBMSA&Category_Code=front_stands

I have both the under the forkleg stand, which works great, but I also have the NewFront Stand which attaches under the steering stem, which is great for front fork removal.

Finally, here is the home page link to Pit Bull:

I originally got a Pit Bull rear stand, and ran into two issues...

1 - The same issue you had with the rear fender flap. This was before I got my eliminator kit.
2 - Lifting the bike solo just made me nervous... balancing the bike straight while positioning the stand under the spools and lifting the handle did not inspire any confidence whatsoever.

Per the recommendation of several members here I swapped it out for the forward handle rear stand, and it's perfect. I can hold the handlebar while I lift the bike so everything feels solid and secure. I also really like that the stand doesn't protrude off the back end and basically take up more space than in necessary in my garage.

To each their own, but I think the forward handle stand is the best choice out there for the ZX-14.

Another vote for T-Rex front and rear . Half the cost and all the needs met plus they work on my other bikes as well .
Works great on the rear with stock fender

Heindle SWING ARM PIVOT stand. A bit expensive but best stand for a variety of reasons that I have enumerated many times ---PM me if you want details.

also, the Pit Bull forward handle will work just fine. It goes in in front of the front tire so no interference with fender.

You are thinking of the exhaust manufacturer, darryl. That is the co that makes Brock's exhausts. Great co, no doubt. Heindle IS the co tha makes the stand I was talking about. Here's linkHEINDL SWINGARM PIVOT STAND

I have a Harris Racing rear stand and the reflector on the rear fender also got in the way. But the tip of the fender bent enough to make it work. Plus, the Muzzy fender eliminator cured it.

Zombie thread is two years old, but this is another vote for the forward handle pit bull. Pricey, but I don't want to drop my baby/homewrecker/beast, and the standard rear lift I had for the Rex didn't fit.

Are you any good with a welder? Here's something I welded up for mine, note the lugs on the side of the stand that secure the stand to the bike before you lift it. They make it completely idiot proof. I don't use them anymore, just place the stand with the bike on the side stand, tilt it upright holding the stand in position and lift. Too easy!!!

I think the same result might be had using velcro tape, if all that is needed is to pre-seat the spools. Might give that a shot. Velcro straps ought to hold the weight of the stand. Hmmmmm.

Not having velcro strapping material, I just grabbed some duck tape to pre-hang the spools, and it worked perfectly. Just laid a piece horizontally across where the spool sits. This is good also because you can look down at the top of the spool carrier and see that it is really in there.

Ghetto, but effective. It even stayed in place taking the bike up and down a few times.

Reminder, this is for the forward handle Pit Bull that is placed in front of the rear wheel.

Also, Sako, your bike is amazing looking. Wait, I have the same one.

Pitbull works fine on mine. I have this one:

Rear Stand - Hayabusa/ZX14/ZRX, Height Adjustable 10" - 15", Removable Handle
Product: F0082A-000

Pre-fender eliminator, I had to have the height adjusted all the way up, and the handle would still hit the fender, but not enough to worry about it.

I also sprung for the extended handle. Doesn't do anything for you except require less force to lift the bike.

Post-fender eliminator, I have the height at halfway (which makes the bike a lot easier to lift). There's enough clearance that I might be able to lower the stand completely.

Putting it up on the stand is still a nervous experience. Doesn't matter how many times I do it, it still creeps me out to balance the bike with one hand and put it on the stand with the other.

I stand on the right side of the bike with the kickstand down when I do it. That way, if it tips away from me, the kickstand will catch it.

My 10R was easier to get used to putting on the stand, IMO.

...you hope it will, without folding up anyway. Try placing a 2x4 under the side stand to hold the bike close to level while you line up the lift forks to the spools. Then you just need to hold the bike stable rather than balance it with one hand. I couldn't handle that without having a nervous breakdown.
