Danno:

Now, now, leave the guy be. He's already stated that's one of the reasons he's leery of opening up.

Additionally, he's started a wonderful new thread here. You guys looking at all the new post-ers coming out? (I **DID NOT say posers DID NOT...).

I think that's great.

40 black, like the shadow in the pitch of night.

I think the reason you get hasseled here for your age TRC, is because we put ourself in your place. I do not think I would have survived being 17 and riding one of these. We certainly hope you do though.

When I was 17 I was riding a piece of crap Honda that was really held together with duct tape and true baling wire.

It is the expiriences we have garnered by moving from a small bike slowly to the top of the food chain that allows us to appreciate it all the more. In my case, I started on a Honda Mini Trail Z50. Wish I still had that bike for my kids...

Trc:

It is hard work, and you're doing fine.

The hardest part for me is to keep my ego in check. I'd lay long odds that the hardest part for you is to keep in check one of two things:

Either the "I'm invincible, I'll live forever, nothing can hurt me" that I remember wearing so long myself, or
the "Hey, show me how fast you can make that go" peer pressure. I'm sure it's enormous.

So, here's my .02, for you, for what it's worth.

Think about what's important to you. Try to determine what makes you live day-to-day, what keeps you going. Then , try to look into the future. What do you see there for yourself? Love of a woman? Kids? Grand-kids? Stuff, toys? Then one more... Think about who loves you. Your mom, your dad, your girl. Yourself...

These assignments are just as hard, but they will keep you focused on Not Killing Yourself with this beast.

For me, it's my Wife, and my Family, and my Son. I love all these people, and they love me. For me, it's enough to keep me going, doing what I do, day-to-day. ...and it keeps me from trying to Kill Myself with this thing (at least, not too often! I choose my moments carefully, and keep getting instruction and learning...).

I would have told this to the other young gentleman who recently disclosed that he wrecked, but I dont think he could "hear me" yet. You're in a different place.

Bob

GRN, "and you're concerned about a 17 yr old riding the most advanced motorcycle in production?LOLOL!!!!!!!!!!."

No I am not concerned. I am explaining that we project ourselves unto him and from my standpoint, I probably would not have survived owning something this fast at 17. Will he? Dunno. Hope so. I am only speaking for myself and sometimes I look back and wonder how I survived a lot of the things I used to do.

Know what, Grn?

I'm reading this last post and I'm on-board with SOA. I likely would not have survived the ownership either, at 17. Yup, and how did I survive the madness that was my brain at that age, anyway? I dunno... Throw a SuperSport rocketship into that mix that was me, and who knows what would be different today? Probably no son, no loves, no life...

I'm *not* advocating that Trc give it up. I want to believe that we are giving him a view from the top of our shoulders, a peek over the top, if you will... I come here, to this forum, looking for advice, from men I respect (I dont take advice from anyone I dont respect). Maybe he feels the same way. If yes, then I want to believe that he'll consider what's been written.

He's a clever guy, after all. He did manage to find his way to a rocketship at 17. ...And he found his way here, for whatever reason. Mebbe he can take away more than he expected to find...

Agreed.

Hindsight is 20/20. I look at it like it is one of those things that seems really really fun while you are doing but as soon as it goes wrong, you wish you had never started in the first place.

I am not telling any 17 yo (that did not ask or is not mine) they should not get this bike. I am saying at 17 I certainly should not have gotten this bike.

I think everyone should be lucky enough to have started off on something small like i did. It made me appreciate each jump in power all the more. This is the first bike I think I may not ever get used to this much power. Still, makes you wonder... what's next?

Surf Blue and 54.

Cut the kid some slack yall, how many were pinning a crapped out, bald, weather checked tires POS bike when we were his age? Lots I expect.
I survived a new H2 when I was 18,he'll be fine. Carry on bub.
Besides, the only things left to most of the public to cull the herd are bikes and RR x-ings.
Just sayin'.
