To Dyno or Not to Dyno
01/09/13 5:02 PM

Hello All,

I have a full Brock's Alienhead system and PCV with Brock's street map and autotune map. Had the red cap to block the air box installed also. The popping on decel was reduced but still present. Still getting the 'sonic booms' quite often also. A local mechanic said he will dyno it and load a custom map for $250. What are your thoughts? The popping and booming were cool at first but getting old. What should I expect to gain? Any responses are appreciated!

See if your dyno guy can do an AFR (AirFuelRatio) dyno pull first.

This will tell you if there are any spikes/dips in your power curve, lean/rich conditions, and how efficient your bike is running.

Our local dyno guy will do AFR pulls for about $30.

A good dyno operator can adjust your fuel map for throttle response, mpg, or peak power.

I'm all for custom maps for your specific bike, accessories, location ext...
Done it on most of my hi performance bikes...at the very least do a dyno run to see what your A/F ratio is and making sure shes running safe.
I don't know if the map will get rid of all of your popping though..I know that in my case with the Akra and Ivan's map there's never been any popping on decel or booming, IMO I think its money well spent.

Are you tuned for 93 Octane? Why are you using 93 Octane?

I agree with zxrider11, why use the higher octane gas if your PC5 is not mapped for it?
according to your 1St post and i quote, (I have a full Brock's Alienhead system and PCV with Brock's street map and autotune map) according to Brock's own website there Street Map: For use on the street using pump gas (any brand/octane – Shell 89 suggested).
http://www.brocksperformance.com/Dynojet-Power-Commander-V+I923293+C281.aspx
I would use 89 octane, Unless your tuner/Dyno guy did a custom map to be used with 93, then disregard my previous statement.

Hows your A/F?

I got a custom map done and I had 93 octane in it at the time. (I really am mechanically inclined)- does that mean I am tuned for 93 octane?

If your dyno guy did not create the fuel map for 93 octane, then you are giving up horsepower.

Sounds like you need to go back and ask some questions.

And the dyno # you posted seems stingy - with the Brocks Alien & street map, I would have expected your final number to be around 200 rwhp.

But it is all relative, some dynos read high and some read low.

Find out what dyno machine he uses, and post back.
