The CBR900RR, or Fireblade as everyone else called it, was probably the biggest milestone in recent sports bike history. As far as the 16" wheel goes, IMO, it all depended what bikes you were riding previously and how you rode them. I had a RRP and a later RRV but the first one was a revelation after stepping off a GSXR1100 and FZR1000. 35kg lighter than the class leading FZR and only 4kg heavier than Honda's own CBR600. Turn in was in a different league to any big sports bike before it and certainly did take some getting used to. The use of a 16" front was slagged off by some at the time but that's because it was just too big a step for many people used to the large/weighty offerings of the day, but that's JMO. I loved mine and wish I'd still got it 'cos good standard examples are fetching very good money these days. I've had numerous top flight sports bikes since then and, apart from the '98 R1 which came close, nothing has offered the quantum leap forward of that first 'Blade. What a bike. JMO

Thanks Peg I pretty much know all that (and more) about the 900RR. You'd think if I know about the 16" front tire, and the controversy you'd think I understand the background right? My bro-in-law had one (he was inspired by riding my VF1000F actually)

I wasn't asking for a history lessor whatever. I was asking for your impression of wear it ranked as an issue for the bike as a former owner. Just kind of curious because mostly I read about the controversy in magazines, and the people that I met that owned them didn't really either know any better or mind.

Vic, I must have read pegscraper's reply differently than you did, it didn't come off to me like he was trying to school you, just giving his opinion on the bike.

Hey guys what was the question I asked. Did I ask "tell me about issues the 900RR had?" or did I ask specifically about the 16" front wheel controversy?

So who didn't who do right? Peg didn't do me right. But it's easier to say "vic he wasn't being mean" than saying "Peg I don't think you really answered Vic's question."

Grn I can't wait until your H2 gets here. I bet your dumbass will go ripping along on it and fly into a tree all like a full retard does in full retard mode. How many motorcycles have you wadded the past 3 or 4 years? About one per year I think.

How many times are you going to post the same pic of that ungly transformer Michael Bay wannabe anyway?

LOL you never had any expectations. Could've been a wad of bubblegum with a supercharger stuck to it!

EAT A DICK! FULL RETARD MODE....AAAWWWAYYYY!!!

VicThing,

Apolologies if you were offended by my post, that was not my intention. It was not meant as a preach or a history lesson to anyone. It was just me relating my experiences with my old Fireblades with a few extra bits of info thrown in. Don't get uptight about it, it was nothing personal.

"How many times are you going to post the same pic of that ungly "..well,since this IS an H2 thread...I guess I'll post as many pics as I wish. It's like..."in yer face BEOTCH".

And BTW,since yer so fond of correcting others around here...how 'bout taking some spelling lessons. You are afterall...a grown man...I assume.

You read the 'chain maintenance' chapter in the service manual yet?You DO have a service manual don't you?

"all like a full retard"...spoken like the true bigot you are.Probably make fun of the handicapped as well, yes?

Don't worry,there's always insta karma....

Wonder if THEY'RE thinking she's a wannabe?;)

If I DO wreck,it won't be cause I'm scared of my bike...ahem.

Pegscraper. Thank you for the apology. I'm also sorry if I came back kind of irrationally.

Thank you for sharing. If you have anything more to add...in kind of a more specific way please be sure to share (about the 16" wheel thing. I never got to ride one, my BIL wouldn't let me (only rode with him a couple times anway) So I'm intersted in like how the bike handled, was it like super unstable too quick steering.

16" tire:
Take a 19 front and at 12 o'clock, tear half it's carcass down flat to the road. How long is that distance?
Take a 17 front and match carcass to carcass length to it. Distance wise, who turned the corner faster?

Suckiss me dick suckers! I turned at the end of your length and now I turned in such a fucking dip the front end washes out. Was that sort of how that 16" worked? Some never washed the front so they were never at that point of knowing the diff, but that fast dip was present?

Is this one of those super-dippers like a paso? Here, take this for a ride and I almost lost a brand new duc throwing input to that r&t. Without looking it up, I'm trying to associate me jumping on so many combos of rides on and off the track. I could only conclude the wheel's half or if I Pi the fuker point fourteen? I can't handle the math, hand me the handles instead.

Here is where the gen1 snaps to attention is that 3-point-rakentrail. A half a mil here at frame is the neck, half a mil back and the swing takes a half for a millimeter is the gen2 turned into power-steering, the snap to attention is gone.

How close am I?

I can't HANDLE IT! Is why I buy K.

When I say noltt turtle, it sure looks like one of those combos off the assembline, is one magnetic switching of a snowflake. I would find out soon enough if Vic's snow is flaked or the flash is; I'll buy/swap out your OE-CU. That means, take the same shot at the same street at the same sun setting, same how many seconds it pulled up in flash. If it hits the same loft, it's the flakes around it. Can't upset the signals is the box is not the loft, the flakes sending in data is.

Vic, you better be on the same page, flash vs. OE. And Vic, no offense, but it takes a rider to connect a flash on worn tires and if you can't roll a couple of yards on used tires that are not even down to the wear marks on the sides... GeeeeeeeeeHA!

LOL well you know what they say Grn? Paybacks are hell. He doesn't ride anymore and every time I see him he talks to me about my 14R. It's like...it's like ...he keeps waiting for me to offer to let him ride it.

But seriously wouldn't let him ride it anyway. I think he thinks this beast is something like is 900RR ... he's mentioned his 900RR. They were fast, but really just a tad faster than my VF1000F (10.6 vs 10.9). I don't think he truly gets in FOFF this thing will flip itself over in what you guys think about 2-3 seconds? He's just like "oh I could handle it". One things for sure, as long as he doesn't have the fear of my bike he'll never so much as sit on it.

The main thing that sticks in my my mind from the first ride on the Fireblade in '93 was the turn in rate compared to the FZR1000 EXUP. The 'Blade could be heeled over with the slightest touch on the bars, almost to the point of washout, or at least that what it felt like for those first few miles, and it could be twitchy over bumps but not to the point of instability. Was this entirely down to the 16" front wheel? I don't think so personally. More a combination of the wheel size + the sharper steering geometry + the large overall weight advantage over the opposition. As I understand it, the 'advantage' of a smaller wheel is it's lighter, meaning less gyroscopic effect so less effort is required to lean the bike over but there are negatives also. I got mine in '93, by which time the model had already been on the street for a year so it had been road tested many times. Some tests mentioned the 16" front, some didn't but nearly all raved about the handling and weight advantage. The then editor of MCN was unfortunately killed on one. Can't remember exactly what the circumstances were but I don't think it did the model's reputation over here any favours. So,IMO, the 16" front issue was overplayed, the overall performance advantage of the machine was not. Every once in a long while a machine comes along that sets new standards and simply raises the bar up several notches. Maybe the H2 could be the next one? We're all waiting! JMO

Oh my garsh...That is EXACTLY what I was asking about. Wow...you just blew my mind! Yeah I read all the reviews and stuff too, but you know how that goes as far as skill goes today I've taken a much more methodical approach to building skills, building speed, building ability. I never cornered as aggressively on my old bike as I do not. I haven't quite reached full lean, but my rear tires are only have probalby 1/8" of area on the tread that isn't worn on both sides.

Basically me trying to understand what Kent Kunistugu or whatever his name was means by rapid turn in and that sort of thing. I can't relate at all. He'd probably lap me on some track in one lap. So I appreciate your sharing this.

Right now I'm learning how to shift my body on the bike, and also rev match on decel. I'm doing pretty good on both, but both are hard to learn because there's just not many places around here I can ride fast and corner. There's a few spots I feel safe spending a few minutes at (I don't want to disrespect property owners to the point of them wanting to do something), but nothing I could do for hours on end. I might go to these spots and run 5-10 laps (if there's a lot of traffic I usually just kind of abort and move on. But I love it. It's ssssoooo fun taking sweeping turns and some sharp corners. I just wish he had some roads like a lot of you do that you can ride at medium paces and yet they're challenging. Other than like neighboroods and stuff they're just around here

Vic, nudge-nudge, lets go running. I changed batteries and my LED's really flash like when new, let's take a 2 mile loop. Na, some other time. I have my new batteries but I'm waiting for the new running shoes with the laces tips flashing along with the heel we go stepping out. Come on man, your old runners have 2 miles left in them, plugit'inn-plugit'inn. Na, the sun is not out. Yeah but we ran the other day in the rain. Naaaa, I'll wait at the mailbox for my new, brand spank'innewristizz auto shift down match my gears it's hard to do excuse kit. So we take the old tires out for the old grip her. Na, look at back pocket, you see an excuse sticking out? Why, now that you mention it I can see it from here.

Get the fucking flashithe clip it the fuck in and just ride it. Na, I want to try out my swapped tires. Is it raining out? No, that's excuse 1. Do you see rubber or cord? Oh, I have plenty of rubber excuse. Is there snow on the ground? No, but I'm waiting out the tires or weather is look at 2 more excuses I can sure pile it hi-low, flip the flop the fuck!!!!
