Shorai battery
06/25/12 5:54 AM

I've installed a 14 Ah Shorai battery on my ZX about 1 month ago. Have been experience loss of power after 3 days of no use. When I go to start the bike the voltage on the screen reads about 11.9V The bike cranks over but very sluggishly and then ceases to turn over. I have also installed LED lights but rarely use them because of the laws. I have run the bike for about 1 to 2 hours continuously where the voltage peaked at 13.9 on the screen, but most of my trips are around 5 to 10 minutes right now. Have read that Shorai had problems in the past which where corrected. My battery is 1 month old and wonder if there is a defect. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

I also just added the Shorai battery just in the last few weeks.

While riding the voltage display shows 13.9 - 14.1 and I have not noticed any lack of start-up power.

The only additional item I power is a Garmin GPS.

Contact Shorai. There was a bad batch of batteries made early on and they were very good about replacing them for free.

I have the 14 amp and I have had no problems at all for 2 years. 2-3 x Has sat for a couple months without a maintainer and always has started.

Thanks for the replies. I talked with Shorai and they told me the 14 needs a 21 Ah. According to Shorai, the problems they had a few years back have been solved and that the new battery I got should be good. I'm looking to add a smaller battery to the one I have.

I've run the the 14 Ah Shorai in my 2008 ZX-14 since 04/2011. Specs are the same as the factory battery and far as I can tell, performs same (which is to say itr works well starts the bike up and runs the OEM lights and a a PC/ AT modules under the seat just fine).

Only thing, the 14 Ah is so small it wont fit in the tray but that is not hard to fix.

battery removal and shorai 14 ah install

Unless you have some electronic stuff on the bike that requires more than average power draw, the 14 should be fine. Just another 8 oz the 21 amp will have everything covered. I'm a weight loss fanatic so I need the 14Ah.

(I guess with tios e mood lights, yoiu might want to go with something more substantial than the 14Ah but Shorai is alwaqys a great choice. They are all super light.

I put the Shorai 21 in my 14 and I love it. It cranks the bike faster than the stock one. When I turn the key on in the morning I'm getting 13.2 before firing and was only getting 12.1-12.2 on the lead acid battery. Quite a bit of weight loss as well.

The larger Shorai is only about 8 oz heavier than the 14 Amp.
