a little expensive for what it is, but seems like a good idea.

I just use a Stanley 30' locking tape measure set on end in the middle of the bottom run to check the slack according to spec. Very easy to set the end of the tape at pin height and then pull the chain down to check the distance.

I didn't see how much they wanted for it. Seems like an ok idea but I bet you would still end up over tightening a little bit until you got the knack of it. Mine always gets tighter after I torque the axle nut. What I found to work best is to adjust the chain slack to 1 and 5/8 inch. Torque so you are pulling the axle toward the adjusters, not away. After you tighten the axle nut, the wheel is pulled back another 1/8" from swingarm compression. You end up with 1.5" of chain slack or a bit less. There's a lot of variables at play there but maybe this thing would help.

Same problem lytnin. I end up having to adjust chain 3 times to get it the way I want. I would like to dial in the monkey to where I want, and then it's auto. Loosen axle and adjusters, mount the monkey (wait for hagrid comment), tighten up, and done, if it holds correctly. Maybe it's my technique, but the slack is always tighter\looser than I want when I'm done. $35+ship. Probably cheap for stress reduction and chain life, in my case anyway, if it works!

Just ordered one, I'll try it out when I get it and be the first to say if I just wasted 40 bucks. Looks like it will work well, but we'll see.

It would be interesting to set the slack with the monkey and then check it the conventional way to see how close it comes to what the manual says. Still seems like the answer to the question noboby asked.
My wife got me one of those "Pocket Monkey" tools you keep in your wallet and I have yet to find any use for it.

I received my monkey today, haven't had time to try it out yet. I am disappointed to find out it's made out of plastic and feels cheap. I have no doubt it will work fine, but I don't typically buy plastic tools with stickers on them. I guess time will tell how durable it is.

Sorry I haven't monkied with my monkey yet. On vacation right now, when I get home I'll give it a whirl.

I got a chance to try it out, works flawlessly. I checked my chain tension before with the monkey before I loosened everything up and it was spot on with the preferred setting on the monkey. (I previously set my chain to 1.5" with a tape measure.) With the chain loose I installed the monkey to the correct setting, tightened all the slack out of the chain, aligned the wheel and tighten the axle. Done, no checking the chain and rechecking the chain. Just focus on the alignment. Re checked the chain tension and sure enough it's set at 1.5".
Obviously there is no real need for this tool, Danno hit the nail on the head-
Still seems like the answer to the question nobody asked
