cylinder head gasket leak.
09/14/13 12:08 PM

HEy so im new here i have already posted in the newbie section.lol anyway i just got back from getting a front tire install on my 14 (i own no tools), and was told by the mech that he noticed a small leak from the cylinder head gasket. He said it would be atleast a 6 hour job and i belive they charge a $83 bucks an hour rate. so yeah not gonna happen. Altough i am still covered under the Kawasaki good time protection, he said that we had to check on monday if they would cover this repair. Anyway i guess what im asking is if anyone has had this problem before or know how serious this might be. Or if you know or have had this problem before and if the protection plan covered it. thanks in advanced for any sugggestions of comments.

So I read through all of that, question: Has anyone had this problem on a '10 or '11, assuming the OEM changes were in the build?

To be clear, are we talking about the HEAD gasket or the VALVE COVER gasket? Repairs for the two of them are vastly different.

Kawi don't call it a valve cover.

Head cover gasket.

Head gasket.

Never heard of a head gasket leak. Plenty of head cover gaskets leaking.

BTW, Mine shows no signs of drip at all this year....not that I have found.

Still using a bit of oil but I have not seen any running down the engine.

I would try the washer fix and be SURE your torque wrench is calibrated accurately. You can do that yourself if you search online for a video tutorial on calibrating torque wrenches. Be very careful on the steel screws in the aluminum block.

Has anyone had this problem on a '10 or '11, assuming the OEM changes were in the build?

Never heard of any leaks after the updated parts were made.

Extended warranty should cover it as long as its the factory parts in there. Kawasaki replaced both of the mirrors on my 07 because they were fogging on the extended warranty.
