Hello all, are the heelguards and chainguard on the 14r the same as on previous models? Thinking about some CF bits and can't find any specific to the 14r...

Yup, I think even the lower fairings are the same. Just attach differently.

Check out 'Bestem USA'! That's where I bought my cf heel guards. They look great too and the quality was excellent. For some reason the holes were too small and I had to drill them out about 50% larger(not a big deal just be careful)but 5000 miles of aggressive riding and one low side crash later and they still look as good as the day I installed them. Fatsix is right there are a handful of interchangeable body parts between the two generations. I plan to slowly add more cf bits to my 14r.

I just recently fucked up my RH lower fairing(surprisingly that was the only thing that got seriously damaged)in a low side and am considering replacing both lowers with CF, maybe.

All cf is not created equal. Make sure you match the thread size and pattern or it will look like ass.

fatsix, you are absolutely correct about the different grades of carbon fabric. However, if these items were actually for structural applications then the fabric grade and style would not be the same due to differing strength and load requirements. What is being sold for cosmetic applications on these motorcycles is simply a plain weave fabric saturated with a low temperature/low strength resin matrix to make it look fancy. Plain weave fabric has the same number of harness loops in the fill direction as it does in the warp direction. When strength is a requirement then a 4,6 or 8 harness fabric will be used. Cosmetically I prefer the appearance of a 8 harness fabric to a plain weave fabric. And if unidirectional strength is a requirement then you can always use carbon fiber tape which is another form of structural carbon fiber. It has filaments that run in only one direction so you get all of the strength in that one direction. You have to design your own laminate structure to give the desired performance. This is determined by the number of oº/90º or +45º/-45º laminated plies that are required. While carbon tape is used to make structural spars, ribs, and stringers on aircraft it is not visually appealing and therefore not sold to the general public to "spruce" up their rides.

In my opinion the price on the heel guards is high. The only thing that's being achieved is appearance and that can be achieved with a cheapy fake carbon fiber decal material.

Wow, all I know of carbon fiber is 1x1 or 2x2 weave.......

Fow! Wow man! Awesome info!!!! Really good stuff! Now I have this feeling I need some multidirectional 8x for something on the bike! :)))) and a roll Of that cf tape would be awesome for everything! Kinda slaps down duct tape!

The front fenders are available in 1x1 and 3x3 weave or twill. Two totally different patterns. I agree on the structural.

Yeah Abuser! That exactly what I used on the factory exhaust heatsheilds and it matched the frame perfectly!

Works good on the triple trees too, if you have any scratches !!

I bought inexpensive CF heel guards off eBay shipped from (I think) Hong Kong- as mentioned earlier I had to drill them out a bit, but it was no big deal, and the weave looked fine to me.

IMHO, they transform the look of the bike from the side- I have a midnight blue '13 and the silver of the stock guards always pulled my eye in a negative way.

Already did this, got the idea from Cblast, thanks C! Was just toying w/ the idea of CF......

The besteems are expensive, but they look nice and fit nice, no drilling ...
