gears and chain

Okay-I've found a manufacturer of chain and sprockets-specifically,the rear 45 tooth sprocket.Ti-Moly construction. The site is Krause Racing.Looks like I'll be going with these guys on my next drive setup.

blue07: What's the purpose behind the sprocket swap? Is it just that much better than the factory chain/sprocket setup somehow?

For users of chains and sprockets, the tooth count on the front and rear sprockets create a specific final drive ratio. This ratio can easily be altered by changing the sprockets with replacements that have a different tooth count. Why might you want to do this? Because it allows you to trade some effective top-end HP for added effective low-end torque, to give you faster acceleration (at the sacrifice of absolute top-end speed). It also permits you to calculate a specific RPM you want the engine to be turning at your preferred cruising speed. For example, if your motorcycle currently runs 5200 RPM at 65 mph, by altering the tooth counts, you could push that RPM number up (to put it further into the powerband for better roll-on performance) or down (to reduce vibration and improve fuel mileage/tank range if you do lots of highway driving).

I always heard it would not be possible for a guy to travel backward in time to exist in a parallel universe with HIMSELF. Nice job bending the rules of quantum physics.

What make of chain has anyone replaced the original one with? How does it compare in quality to the factory one? My 06 needs new chain and sprockets after 37000 km.

FYI on chains

Thanks HUB, I found out a bit more and apparently the chain to use is a DID ZVM X or Z ring one. The sprockets are from Italy and are made by Chiaravalli (?) or something like that. We can get these in SA. Cheers.

EK's top of the line 530 chain is a little stronger than the stock DID chain. See link below. They are marketed as "zero stretch because the tensile strength is 11,000 lbs. The stock DID has a tensile strength of approx. 10,200 lbs. The Ek will be my next choice or possibly the Krause Sidewinder 530 "Smart Chain". It has a TS of 16,000. So does the 525 and 520 pitch chains. This would allow a conversion from 530 to 525 or even 520 because the TS far exceeds any other chain on the market (EK, RK, DID, Tsubaki etc).
