apex risers HELP
05/13/13 8:30 AM

Ok I'm new and I've searched for a while but can't seem to find a solid answer. I am looking at buying a set of apex 3" or 4" riser clip ons. They don't come with extended brake line though and I am wondering if I need one (I would assume so, but I've been wrong before), and if I do need one how much longer and where to get one? Also, the clutch and electricals, extend or reroute? Thanks for the help!

I can only use deductive reasoning to help you out... since I don't plan on buying them.

I can say that there are users on this board that have stacked GenMar and Heli bar risers together for a total height of 1 3/4" rise and said the cables were JUST long enough. Armed with this information I would say that at the VERY least you will need which ever set you are looking for - 1 3/4" longer cables.

However if it were me?, I would buy the X distance longer cable. So 4" risers = stock + 4" longer lines. But working in the world of computer and networking, I would rather my fiber optic cable be 1" to long then 1/2" to short... Cause then you have to break out the cable stretchers... you know what a pain in the ass they can be ;-)

BTW, Coremoto has a sale going on right now for a full set of cables (brakes, front and rear for $139) CoreMoto ZX14r 2012 Cables

I have bought some stuff from them before, had no issues, seem pretty quality stuff. I bought the spiked windscreen bolts, bar ends, front axle covers, and spools, all blue base with black spikes. I have pics posted on here somewhere with my windscreen bolts... someone asked to see them.

Anyway good luck and make sure you let us know how you like your risers when/if you get them and what you did for the break lines... I always enjoy a good product review.

Ok, so I got the risers in 3" instead of 4" after talking with chickenstrips who has been tremendously helpful. So I'm still tweaking it a bit, but where I'm stuck is with the clamps mounting to the forks. If I put them where the stock ones were the clamps don't slide down on the fork tubes all the way. Probably only about 2/3 of the way. There is 2 bolts on the clamps that I have tightened down as hard as I can, and it seems pretty sturdy, but I am new as I said before, and don't know how safe it is like that. the clamps are very tall compared to the stock ones which are tapered and don't mount the same way in that they bolt down into the triple. Has anyone had any experience with this or have any insight as to the saftey of it. I ended up going with the coremoto braided brake lines and that was great. I went with 5" over because I ordered them before I changed my order on the risers and backed down to 3". Guess it doesn't hurt to have a little extra.

The fairing clearance is a small bit of an issue at full lock in either direction, but I think with some moving of the controls and a mini brake fluid reservoir (which I understand I'll have to monitor more closely) I should be able to get that taken care of.

I guess with the clamp problem if it isn't safe my only solutions would be to clamp the risers under the triple which would eliminate a lot of the "rise" unless I lowered the fork which I'm not sure how that would effect the handling. My other option would be to raise the fork enough to have the clamp all the way on there which again I don't know how it would effect handling. Also, if either of these are necessary, could someone give me some direction on how to do it and an idea of the difficulty level.

Thanks for the help. You guys are awesome!

So the riser posts are forward of the fork tubes? And you're trying to get the 'riser' clamps onto the fork tubes with the stock triple tree installed? It shows going UNDER the factory triple tree...am I right?I would send those back...and just go with some Helis or Genmars or both...you already have the lengthened brake line(s)...this deal looks kinda...well...not so good.It needs to be clamped to the fork...for safety's sake at the least. With both bolts. If it can't do that....I'd ditch it.I don't know if you'd like that 'stretch' forward of the forks(bars) either..kinda defeats the purpose of 'raising' I would think. When you raise the bars...they move BACK as well...on a standard riser block. And having to buy a mini reservoir?Nah....I'd get my money back..not that they aren't okay....on a different bike.

Are you trying to get some 'pullback' as well as raising? You won't with those.

I am jealously awaiting my friends old set of riser bars. Can't wait to lift up those bars.

No the posts are not forward of the tubes and they are not mounted below the triple. Actually the great thing about the apex is that you can adjust them wherever you want. I got everything fixed up now and I can't imagine any better. I had to raise the fork tubes about 1/4-1/3" and it didn't seem to make any noticible change in handling. Only other thing I had to do was turn the throttle cables to the under side which actually looks better than it did before. If anyone is looking for risers, theses things are the ticket. Along with the Murphs foot pegs it's as comfortable as my cruiser was and WAY more fun.

So I'm guessing here that this particular rider wanted them forward of the fork tubes...I see how it could be turned around that tube now....hmmm...interesting.With those bars now being able to adjust forward or backward in the arc...I wonder how that affects the steering inputs?Could be quite a nice addition for a 'custom' fit?

I know I can definitely feel a difference in the input angle and pressure having the stock config as opposed to the helis or/and genmars on there.

Ahh, green that's what you mean. They look to be awesome for lower back relief - they look really cool two. Good ergos and good design. Perfect combo!

I installed these on my 14r and are the best upgrade ever. Left brake line was left stock length, but installed stainless steel brake lines and made them 3 inches longer than stock for this mod. They have never shifted or moved since tightened down, and used the 4 threaded holes and installed 4 hex bolts that rub against the bottom clamp to help with a friction fit, so they will not rotate.

They allow you to ride more comfortably for longer periods of time, also installed the ISO Kuryaykn goldwing type grips to which are larger in diameter to help lift you up a little more over stock grips which are the most uncomfortable grips on the planet..got the black ones so every thing matches perfectly!

About 300.00 for the Apex and the brake lines if you do the work yourself. Also put the Pazzo levers on at the same time so have a complete packaged steering unit...very nice setup.

My bars from the Apex are on the rear driver side, not on the forward end at 12 O'clock as pictured on their ad herein....this moves the bars much closer to me and gives me lots of choices of bar placement and angles on the bars as they have internal set pins so you can adjust for the angle of your handgrips too...and makes for a fully adjustable unit to suit the rider.
