PCIII
08/18/09 2:19 PM

Just wanted to know if anyone on the site is running a full yosh system without powercommander and if so are you having any problems with at all. I have had five sport bikes four of them with the power commander and I always seem to disconnet because of problems so I am trying to decide if I should even waiste my money by getting one to start with. I am looking at going with the Yosh RS77 Full System.

Big Mike, I'm curious as to what kind of problems you have had with your PowerCommanders. Hardware failures or software issues with mapping? Also were these PCIII USB or the older version.

As far as the R-77 full system, my advice is to get a PCIII USB and remap. I rode my CBR with the Yoshimura RS-5 full system witout a Power Commander for a couple days. It was running so lean the header pipes instantly turned dark blue almost an indigo. Way happier now after adding a PCIII and trying a couple of different maps on for size.

i just put in the r-77 full system and my headers turned blue the first couple days of hard riding, it must of been like 400 miles of riding after those 2 days. i'm still debating about getting a pc, the pipes turning blue is kinda normal for stainless steel being exposed to heat, how much are the custom maps for the 14 on the pc and if i do get one which one to get the regular pcIII or the ex version?

The PCV would work for a G1 I believe, but I bet it would be hard to find PCV maps for a G1. I don't see why a tuner couldn't use a PCV to tune your G1. A custom tune will cost about $300 from what I've heard.

Buying a map? I have no clue what it costs. People usually have the map from the supplier they buy the PC from loaded on their PC at no additional cost. Make sure your PC supplier is also a reputable tuner. Fuel Moto seems to be doing a great job with their maps. Anyone with a Power Comander can download maps from Dynojet's website as a free service for buying DJ's product. Sometimes people share maps but many people consider this to be unethical, unauthorized use of intellectual property.

Installing any PC is not that hard if you position the unit on the ram air tube or some other place on the side of the bike. Installing under the seat is quite a project however.

Mine turned blue on the way home from the shop, about a 15 minute ride. Runs much cooler now after getting the right map on there, digital water temperature gauge sits right on 180 degrees even when running hard. Pipes have turned kind of a golden color now, same as the midpipes on my 14's Yoshi's.

Getting a Power Commander is definitely the way to go with adding any performance upgrades. Most bikes run rich/fat with a full system, even if you don't get a custom tune you can adjust the low end by yourself. I can help you and it's extremely easy.

A bike will produce peak HP at running temperature.

I bought my "14" in September, and it has a Full Muzzy system on it with "flies" removed and a PCIII.

I gotta say, that having the headers glowing red hot certainly concerns me.

I'm considering putting the Original headers back on and removing the Power Commander.

Do you think that if I leave the "Flies" out it'll work properly?

From some of your other posts, it sounds like you've been into bikes a while longer than I have. All I can tell you is that my full system runs at least twice as cool as stock exhaust. It is ceramic coated but I doubt that is the main reason it is so much cooler. I'm pretty sure I could touch the headers 5 minutes after shutting down. Two minutes after shut down, the muffler is almost as cool as it was never running.

My idea is that since you have a high flow system, it should be running a lot cooler than it is. Your stock pipes never got that hot, did they? Mine didn't. It sounds to me like all you need is the right map. I think you must certainly have a very lean situation there. I wouldn't run the motor until you get remapped or you might melt something inside.

If it is a G1, It will run lean below 6K rpm with flies out and no PC. Still, I have heard of people running their 14 like that without any issues. If there were glowing head pipes, someone would have posted that. I've been following this stuff for 2 years and flies topics were very prevailent back when I got started. I don't think flies out is causing this but it may be contributing if you have a map that is too lean.

G2s, I hear a PC is less necessary since the mapping is richer everywhere. My flies are out on my G2 and my current map is for flies in but it still runs great.

Make sure you get some more input on this. That red hot header sounds pretty alarming to me too.

Thanks for that reply.

In my experience, Glowing headers are never good.

I think I'll hook the laptop to it and check to see what map is in it.
Pretty sure the software is available at the Dyno Jet site.

Since none of the software or hardware other than the PCIII came with the bike, I'm
assuming that a regular USB cable will work to communicate back and forth.

The bike supposedly has a custom MAP, but it could have been "Tinkered with" or

possibly it was just shit from the start.

Personally, I never have liked a PC on a daily rider bike.
It's just not necessary and honestly, who'll really notice the difference of 5hp on their daily driver.
IMO they has more trouble than they are worth.

Yeah but if you are going to run that pipe on the stock mapping, you will still have a lean condition. Perhaps they tuned it lean to stop popping on decel. If it doesn't pop now, that might be the reason. Good luck. Let us know how it goes. Ask around a bit more too. I'm not an expert or nuttin'.

Poping...???

If your referring to the 18 inch flames out the exhaust, then yes, there would be popping.

It would seam that you have a mapping issue and from what i understand even a custom map needs to be mapped for the way you ride and for where you ride as in if the bike was mapped at say 25ft or sea level and then that bike then moves to say 3500 feet above sea level you are gonna have some serious issues the stock bike has compensatory software just for theese kinds of changes. So if your mapp was loaded at a different altitude than you rode or ride at (there ya go)and if you need to get some more Info you can speak to someone who does dyno work or on this site we are lucky enough to have someone that does map work, but also he can point you in the direction you need to go as far as curing the Red Hot Shits. You would just send him a message to his screen name its (1jeffo) and maybe he can help you he has others I just think he may know more than most on the subject. I have the 07 and its one hell of a bike with the mods i have done so far. I hope you get it right and Just check to make sure that you have the right powercommander model # as in 06-07 # are like 224410and 224411 they have other numbers for 08 -09 as well as the pcV line they even have as piece of junk California model its like power commander EX model you don't want that thing. You came to the right place we'll get it fixxed ...xxx's
