2013 to 2016 SE
11/10/16 9:00 PM

So I had a little disagreement with my '13 regarding available front tire traction, and lost the debate.

Since it was a total loss, I decided to buy a '16 SE. It comes standard with ABS, Brembo MC, Brembo monoblock calipers, Brembo rotors and braided steel lines. Given the propensity for my brakes on the '13 to overheat and fade, I am looking forward to significantly improved braking. I've got a broken collarbone, so no riding for a bit... but that means more time to wrench!

Zero miles, and off to Nels with 2 Wheel Dynoworks for a dyno break-in.

Initial break-in dyno went as expected, with the more restrictive emissions hurting the stock performance to the tune of about 8hp.

For those wondering, the '16 header has a catalytic converter in it that works in addition to the cats in the pipes. These, combined with the O2 sensor are likely the culprits responsible for the power loss. I'll be buying the Brock's Dual CT full system and having Nels reflash and tune the ECU in the next week. More pics and info to follow!

Glad you didn't sustained further injuries. Wow yeah man that white '13 took a beating but glad you've got yourself something else to saddle up on. Very, very nice 14R...wicked color scheme too.

Glad you are OK and moving on!

And thanks for the baseline dyno data!! Should help to inform some of the self proclaimed subject matter experts on this forum with actual before and after power/torque data from a stock vs. reprogrammed ECU.

Cheers!

The cat is not easily removed. The y-pipe is welded into the header, so breaking the catalyzer out will be a serious chore with no straight access.

I am glad that you walked away from the spill...
What happened with the front tire? I am thinking of getting those Pirellis....
Is it Bridgestone S20 on that 16SE?

I'm really impressed how flat the torque curve is between 5 and 10K rpm. And to see the bump up in torque at 7K rpm. I always see people stating " the beast comes alive at 7K rpm" this is why.

Too cold out and not enough warm-up on some Pirelli Angel GTs. A travel trailer cut me off on a two lane on-ramp and I dynamited the brakes, expecting the GTs to behave like a set of Supercorsa SPs. Cleared the duals of the trailer, but tucked the front and lowsided.

I would still recommend the Angel GTs... they simply aren't designed for aggressive braking at lean, and I shouldn't have asked them to do something I'm used to my track bike doing!

The current bike comes with the S20R tires. Not sure if I'll keep them on, since I'm not a fan of Bridgestone or 190/50 profile tires... but we'll see. I've got a month or so before I can ride again to figure it out.

A whole raft of goodies is coming in from Brocks's and Revzilla.

All stripped down and ready for the new pipes.

Brembo calipers, rotors, and MC. Pretty nice kit for OEM on a Japanese bike!

SW Motech tail rack and side carrier mounts installed. It was hard cutting into a bike I haven't even ridden yet, but the products are a must-have for me. After thousands of miles on my first 14R with them, I know they're worth the the minor surgery in the tail and cowl.

2016 SE here, same color!

Yosh R-77 4-1 took care of all 3 cats at once. (As you can see in my Sig). No prob!

Guhl flash took care of the rest, plus Guhl loaded a map for my Yosh pipe. Seems to be working well! Good power, no decel pop, good exhaust color which is my seat-of-pants A/F check. Haven't done a dyno run, no need, so not sure what the numbers are...

Having no trouble with B-Stone S/20's, seem to be fine...better than I expected! Have heard the S/21's are better, we'll see, got plenty left on these 20's.

Guhl was unable to flash the ECU so it retains Traction Control setting (OFF) when bike is shut off. Maybe in a future release...

I can say that after a while, the total battleship gray gets a little old, thinking about the Emerald Carrozzeria's, but at $2K maybe I'll settle for green wheel stripes....

Nels with 2wheel Dynoworks has the ability to flash the '16 ZX14R. He's doing mine tomorrow. I'll post the dyno graphs in the evening. Hoping for close to 210/130 with the Brock's Dual CT and Nel's magic!

Okay folks, the numbers are in.

Nels did a great job as usual maximizing the potential of my 2016 ZX-14R SE. The gains going from a stock exhaust to a Brock's Dual CT full system are significant. Just as significant are the gains going from unflashed to flashed however. These graphs should make it clear that the exhaust and flash tune are both vital components in achieving maximum horsepower and torque.

The only weight savings were in the exhaust, which shaved off about 35 lbs. The Givi mounting rack and tabs weigh a couple pounds, and there are a few other accessories that weigh a bit. I'd say the bike is still 560 or so.

Doesn't really matter to me. At 240 in gear, a few pounds on the bike are irrelevant. I'd sure love some light wheels for better handling, though!

Lookin' sharp TB I like your trimmed cowl treatment over the top case rack.

Nice torque and HP gains you got.

Also hope to see pics of your side cases and top case on at some point. Yeah I'm weird like that ... starting to look more at the function-to-form factor vs just form

I'm all about function>form. I enjoy having a sharp bike, but only after it meets my needs first. I actually happened to have my luggage off the '13 when I crashed, so I just need to repaint the three trim panels from white to black and I'll be good to go!

Here are some shots from them mounted on the '13. Should be particularly germane for you, with that gorgeous white bike of yours!
