Hi Guys,

I have a '13 SE as well and I'm having the same issues, same time periods, coming from levers when I rest my digits on them, etc

I tried the foam over grips, do nothing other than make my grips huge :)

Have had a few bikes over the years and never had the problem before. I am very conscious of not gripping to tight, and I carry out a few relaxation techniques and stretches but nothing works other than either getting off or alternating arms and accept the risks of doing so :)

I will try and change the grips altogether and maybe look at risers to alleviate any body position issues. I dont know what the "LSL" reference was, anyone care to elaborate please?

LSL is referring to a handel bar conversion kit made by the company LSL, the below link is just for reference, I ordered my kit from a local shop here and I've been pretty happy with it (wish I got even higher bars however).

The kit is REALLY easy to install; took a couple of hours, hardest part is trying to figure out how to remove the triple T without breaking the plastic cap for the head bearings... (I didn't figure that one out) I personally didn't find it made much if any difference on vibrations but did help with more of an upright riding position and it gives you a LOT more leverage on the bars (easier to turn).

As a side note, the stock (or others made for the zx14) bar end weights won't work on the LSL bars, the stock clip ons have a threaded insert welded in place, the LSL bars are hollow bars. If anyone has any recommendation for bar end weights I'm all ears (eyes in this case?).

I noticed you said.."resting my digits on the levers"...have you considered adjusting the levers downwards some?You 'may' be stressing your carpal nerve doing that if it's causing your fingers to 'rest' in a 'stretched' position on those levers.Just a thought.And maybe turning that adjuster wheel to the minimum length setting?Maybe you've already done this...so I didn't mean to imply you don't know your bike....


You could also consider a throttle lock device.They are handy for allowing you to get your hand off that grip on occasion.I was getting a smidgen of that tingling with the stock bar height.Just a shade too low for me.I installed my genmar risers to em....problem solved.Not only raises the bar...but causes you to shift your overall position in the saddle.Somehow they work.(for me)


@Nightmare...I used the 'acerbis' grip guard inserts,and modded them just a bit to make everything fit right(with the LSL bars)...on my 07.They took the place of that welded threaded bar end.You just have to grind a bit off to get the correct length for the bolt and factory bar end fitment.They won't just 'work' as is.(for 7/8ths size bars...like the LSL's)

@Grn14, Will look at adjusting the levers down, and happy for any advice and I don't know this bike as well as some in my past - that's both good and bad :) Depends on yr POV :D cheers

@Nightmare, can I ask why the conversion rather than lifters? I haven't carried out any real research on those bars and would appreciate your feedback :)

As an aside, has anyone installed an aftermarket screen? Zero Gravity etc? There are some cheap ones on ebay but some look real cheap?!?!?

I was having the same problem as you, even after the risers were installed, I got some Qwi nerve protection gloves, and it helped a lot, the first ride I didnt get numb at all, I still have to keep the pressure off my wrists, and try and keep my hands a little down (like Grn said).

Also the throttle lock helps so you can switch hands when going on long stretches, you might want to check out the throttlemeister lock, I have a Kaoko lock, and is made really good, but the threads are reversed, and it kind of messes me up once and a while, I dont remember if the throttlemeister has reversed threads or not ?

One last thing, I have a zero gravity DB and it works great, no wind or anything even at high speeds, they also make a touring screen, if you need more protection, good luck with your hands, its a pain when you love to ride, and have to put up with that ..

You could try some Grip Puppies, foam sleeves that go ever your grips. They helped my hands a lot.

robp69, I tried the risers but didn't find they made THAT big of a difference, what sold me on the LSL kit was a video they had showing the dramatic difference between clip ons and the LSL bars on a motorcycle with both still on and a rider demoing the riding position.

Kaoko works well.I like mine.I just have to remember to ONLY turn it enough to let the grip release.Otherwise...it takes some turning to get it tightened up to lock...not so good IMO.But locks very nicely.

Kaoko works great, but be careful, I was turning it to tighten it down, and I hit the throttle with my glove accidently, and it almost threw me off, not kidding ! those reversed threads can hurt you ! but really it is a very good product ..

Gents,

Thanks for your feedback yet again. Have ordered the ZG DB, expect it in a couple of weeks

Looking into the gloves and will youtube some LSL bar demos. Will still experiment with risers for the sake of $100 though have the suspicious notion that I'll be posting back a -ve result.

@nightmare, happy for " I told ya so" remarks ;)

I've rotated the levers down a little and adjusted them to minimum, unfortunately haven't been able to go for a decent run and won't til I get back home next week.

Throttle locks are on the horizon, would love to retrofit a system similar to a car :)

The good thing about the Kaoko throttle lock, is it has the letters K A O K O on the ring you tighten down, so for me, when the K is about half way between the throttle grip, I know it is close to locking down ....

robp69, I know the risers worked well for a lot of guys on the forum so you might be quite happy with them. I did the same thing by trying the risers out simply due to the cost of the LSL bars.

Regarding throttle locks, I had the throttlemister lock, was happy with its function (locked/unlocked easily, looked good, etc) but I never really used it so when it I couldn't use it on the LSL kit (the LSL bars don't have threads on the insides for the bar ends) I wasn't too upset. I do a lot of short riding to and from work so traffic + throttle lock = accident waiting to happen. On longer trips I just pull the clutch on a downhill stretch and coast giving my right hand a break.

Grn14, are these the inserts that you used? I'm at a loss as to how the bar end bolt threads into the inserts...

I made my own bar end weight attachments with long allen bolts,washers, pieces of rubber hose and nuts ground down to fit inside the bars. Jam them into the bars, tighten the bolts and the pieces of hose get squeezed end-to-end and expand to create an interference fit in the inside diameters of the bars.
