feedback on upgrades
09/21/10 12:26 AM

hey boys, (and girls),

i am selling useless crap on ebay so i might purchase some useful crap for the bike. the process is slow going, but its working out so far and while i am waiting patiently to sell/order more stuff, (frame sliders were first) i got to thinking about how others have gone about making their upgrades. the high dollar stuff is still a year off, but i am looking at a few things. so, i come to you guys with my wish list. i am curious to hear what other people would get first and why... as my stature was my biggest reason for getting this bike, 6'3" 250#s, i needed something comfortable, so i have already purchased the rearset relocation brackets. i ahve also upgraded the fork springs, here is what i am looking at next:

stop grip, (less fatigue in the turny bits)
braided lines, (duh)
1" risers (i do a lot of riding, i think this will help, particularly when i have a passenger)
double bubble,
leather seat (anyone interested in an 09 SE ostrich skin seat? its real fake.)

high dollar items,
FMF apex pipes,
Givi bags
power commander (i don't need more power, but want to manage the air fuel and gas mileage where i can... particularly since i go from sea level to 8k feet and more... would hate to lean this thing out in the winter. LOL)

so, tell me what you think, if you have anything to offer. if i am forgetting anything... thanks guys.

when in doubt, slow down. no one ever hit something by going too slow.

Hey Rally

I added a ohlins steering stabilizer from brocks performance and absolutley love the way my bike handles since the addition.

I have been thinking of upgrading my suspension and was wondering where you U purchased your new springs and how much did it cost you.

Thanks
Snuffy

rallyrodent - instead of the stomp grip pads for the twisties, I'd consider going with the snake skins - Kawasaki Product Page. Other than that, good list. Wish I had the extra money for Ohlins suspension upgrade on mine. The stock setup definitely wasn't intended for a 260-pound rider.

stomp grip will damn near eat a hole in your jacket the tech which I use now will just scrape off the finish. To be honest the section that acts as a tank pad didn't help get me more stable on the bike it just stopped me from scratching the tank and help ruin the finish on a 1000 dollar suit. The knee sections are worth while and do help a lot under hard braking

to be clear, i only upgraded the front springs... i told all about that here: http://www.zx14ninjaforum.com/messages.cfm?threadid=DC22E84B-D56B-84E2-1AC5B62D46C50264&page=1&searchTerm=springs#13

if you are over 170#'s... you should definitely do it.

thanks for the stabilizer idea. i hadn't thought of that in a while. i would like to get one, then try lowering the front a few mm... i have heard that will make huge differences in turning as well... but its only recommended with a stabilizer because it makes the bike more twitchy.
