my dealer

well i ask my dealer what it would cost to put on my new-1 front gear. he said about 50bucks. being short on time i told him to do it. when i dropped of the bike i saw some engine ice on the shelf so i told him to flush and fill the system with it. shouldnt cost much more right? well i picked it up last night and it cost me $250. i kinda felt screwed. is this a little out of line? btw the gear is awsome and the engine ice lowered my temp by one bar. that stuff is good.

kinda sucks my bike goes faster than my airplane

Sounds like he ripped you off to some degree - maybe let him know and see what he says. I guess you have to ask about every little detail to avoid this kind of thing...

Yeah 3/4 of an hour sounds about right to put on the sprocket so 50 bucks makes sense. However the engine ice at the most may have been 25 bucks so that means they charged you $175 to change the coolant. Even if you have zero mechanical ability it should take you no more than an hour to change the coolant. Its things like that helps Motorcycle Dealers get bad reps and loose customers. If I were you I would go back to the Service Manager and let him/or her know you were not happy with what they charged you to do such a simple job. Then again, the best way to get even is simply never go back to that shop not even to buy a can of chain lube. In addition I would tell everyone in the area that rides anything on two wheels of my experience. Trust me if you do that it will cost them one hell of a lot more than the $175 bucks they stole from you. Maybe who ever wrote the bill is just a tool and the owner has no idea what a fool they have in the shop. So you would be doing them a favor by returning and giving them a chance to fix. F'em post the stealerships name and location

we'll in order to change the coolant does the plastic not have to come off if so there is a bit of time involved with taking off and putting on the plastics and we all know that so that could amount to a 1 hour charge just for that.

Ask to get a quote from the flat rate book for coolant drain and sprocket change. What is the shop labor rate times the time it took the mechanic and his time as opposed to ideal conditions of the flat rate time. I would have given you a back rub, turn you over, leave the room; you do yourself; I come back in the room; $250 please.

$250 does sound expensive, but the Engine Ice is $20 a 1/2 gallon and it takes almost a gallon to change, and you do have to remove the fairings to drain and flush properly...
