I have been out of the game for some time. But did the bolt pattern change from the previous generation? I had this one on my 06 ZX14 back in the day, and it worked great. No, it didn't look as sleek, but it did the job. Especially in the colder months.http://www.zx14ninjaforum.com/userfiles/Blacklightning/Image122620111605221.jpg

To blacklightning, from what I see on ebay, the bolt pattern has not changed between 1st and 2nd generation ZX14's. They are interchangeable.

Not so sure it's a direct swap. The 1st gen has the screws fastening into wellnuts behind the cowl. The 2nd gen has plastic molded fastener mounts inside the fore and aft area at the seam. Can't remember if those are on the midfairing...I think so.And also a plastic reinforced attachment point for the screws(2)on the lower panel.Possibly the 'wellnut' openings on the lower panel seam MIGHT line up with the tabs(projections)on the inner midfairing seam.If they don't,it won't fit.Look on the parts diagram to see what I'm talking about.I suppose you could ream out three holes on the lower to match the upper projections...if they don't line up since both years have that flange on em.

Hi Grn14, since I changed my windshield recently, I had a good look. I also took a look at the part diagrams of the 2008 -2011 (Gen 1) and 2012 and up (Gen 2). Both use the same windshield 39154-5025. In 2013 they added a inst. cluster cover with 2 clip on nuts. The subsequent shields 39154-004 had two pop in spacers 92152-1690 to guide the bolt properly to the 2 clip on nuts in the bottom positions. The top 4 bolts mount as usual with 5mm well nuts. The windshields are interchangeable with the proper number of well nuts and spacers depending on the year.

So i just ordered this one as recommended earlier: Windscreen Extension

I'm hoping that the clamps can be oriented in a manner to connect to the windscreen in a vertical position as my existing Puig screen doesn't have much horizontal real estate except in the center-most section and the edges are vertical. All of the online pics show it connecting to horizontal sections of windscreen.
It arrives over the weekend and will see if it works; if not will return and look for another option, if so, will post up an additional review.

I just learned about this screen yesterday: MadStad, which is height and angle adjustable and can be set quite vertical about like a Kawi Concours https://madstad.com/products/kawasaki-zx14r-2012

Attaches to your mirror mounts and is quick-release. Choice of 4 different heights and choice of 4 different tints.

Not cheap tho at $280

I've got the ABM bar kit and Madstad quick release screen on my bike. Excellent mods for me . Would I buy these again ? Without a doubt.

I just received the windscreen extension today. It was a straightforward install and I just needed to fiddle with the adjustment a bit to get it right. Upon my first test on the highway I had the arms in more of vertical orientation with the screen close to vertical as well. In this orientation I found that it was most comfortable and reduced the wind the most. However, it flopped down and backward on the highway once i got over 70mph.
I decided to orient the arms as close to horizontal as i could get them so they would resist the wind at their strongest position and tested up to a healthy speed with no issues.
I definitely am pleased with the results. It doesn't reduce all of the wind ofcourse but probably like 50% or more as previously stated. Probably the best benefit will be that i will only slightly need to lower my head (maybe 3-4 inches at most) on the highway at speed instead of the full tuck like before to be in the wind-free zone.

One other item i'm looking at is this which may help even further: Helmet Windjammer

Looks good! Looks just like I pictured it would when I considered getting one Plus, it looks small enough that if you go to an area like Tail of the Dragon you could take it off and store it with you, like in a top case.

Thanks.. and yes, it should be quite easy to remove..

I had a look at that Madstad screen and that looks like the be all/ end all of screen extensions for sure, im sure it obliterates the wind, but is a bit costly at the moment for me, im saving up for some slip-ons next i think.. prob the Delkevic 18" slip ons as a budget friendly option...

I find a bit of wind blast at high speed more comfortable by taking weight off the wrists, the screen I have seems to be the perfect balance. Had another 600m+ day today and the slow bits through towns and traffic etc were a real PITA compared to cruising at motorway speeds, especially towards the end of the ride. I've seen some riders fit race bubbles to their OEM screens on sports bikes to give better wind protection without changing the original screen.

Update: went on a 4-hour round trip and it performed wonderfully on the ride down but unfortunately on the return trip it started flexing and moving back, pretty much losing its integrity and soon after a clip flew off and one side came loose while riding. I was able to hold it while riding and made it home. Needless to say, i have it on return to Amazon and am purchasing this other one instead.. its all metal so should last longer:

maybe you could buy the ZeroGravity 'touring' windscreen.I had one. They work very well and fasten into the stock screen screws.

Wow! That's a bummer!

I like the fact that the next one you're getting is metal bracketry, but only 1 holding onto the middle of the fixed screen seems iffy. Good luck, and I'm looking forward to hearing how it works out

- This windshield can helps to reduce the blowing wind and road debris, enhance your road safety.
- A great modification accessory to makes your motorcycle more aggressive and to be eye-catching.
- Made of high quality ABS plastic, durable for long time use.
- Universal fit for most of motorcycles, such as for Honda / Yamaha / Suzuki / Kawasaki / BMW / KTM / Aprilia / Ducati.

Gotta be from China!

Yep i'm sure its a Chinese product.. the issue was never the clamp with set screws coming loose, that was solid and i even tried pulling it off and it wouldn't budge, so im speculating that the new center mount extension should also be solid in that regard and if it works out will even be a less expensive option at only $23.00 vs $40 for the former.

Update; received the new windscreen extension today and installed with a few minor adjustments.. i found that the locking handle didnt work well so i just replaced with a phillips screw. I tested it out and it works just as well as the previous one but is much more solid as its all aluminum and no plastic other than the screen itself. With the new screw its not moving at all.. Word of caution though.. they state to use threadlocker on the set scews and i did but unfortunately some leaked down the back of the screws and onto the acrylic and caused it to have marks that i could not remove, so i have a replacement on order and will not use the threadlocker next time or be much more careful with it.

Can't miss with new but 3M Scratch and Swirl Remover with a microfiber cloth does wonders.
