handlebar vibration
03/22/12 4:50 PM

Hi, I have another question. I am having trouble with my hand going to sleep while I am riding, from what I read here the bars are solid and the end weights help with the vibration. I changed my grips to the ones I had on the vmax this helped but did not cure the problem. So the question I have read about foam type slip overs and vibranators does anyone have experience with either of these ( I know the vibranators require a hollow bar but as I am a welder I wouldn't have a hard time making a hollow bar to fit). Also do you think gloves would help and if so what kind. They would have to be light for riding in above 100 deg. heat. I live in the desert. Any help or thoughts would be appreciated.

PS I just read about barsnakes can anyone compare them to vibranators.

i use the fingerless gloves for summer they also have padded palms. They help a little. Just put a Hyper pro stabilizer on and Ive noticed it has taken out a lot of the vibration

Hub I already have bar riser ( don't know the brand ). I put some foam grips on it today that helped a lot. While I had the grips of I checked the bar it is hollow inside and the treaded part is only about the thickness of a standard bolt, so I think you could cut off the threaded part and slip in a vibranator as long as the id is the same as a standard 7/8 inch bar. Has anyone tried it, also has anyone tried the vibranators on any bike with clip on bars.

bar end weights, bar risers, and gel padded gloves helps me a lot, but the throttle hand still tingles after an hour or so. I have foam grips to install next. I know it's hand position, but hard to hold the throttle any other way.

Hub I am not sure what you mean by the mirrors buzzing , they vibrate sure but it is the numbness in the hand I need to cure. As for the neck and back problems I have only had the bike for a few weeks I am trying the bars the way they are for awhile to see if I like or hate it I have always rode bike with a more sit up style ( vmax since 1988). I will try the spiegle conversion kit if I don't like or can't stand the bike as is. What I am trying to do now is a cheaper fix to my hand going to sleep until I decide if I won't the spiegle or not. As for the vibration of the bike I bought it used and don't know if it is vibrating more than normal. I have read here that others have had the same problems, only looking for possible solution. Alg8er I will try to find some gel padded gloves. Thanks for the suggestions, still nobody has used the vibranators on any sport bike.

Hub the bike had 6000 miles on it. I wouldn't think the valves would need adj this low of millage . As for riding numb I have been going around like that for years. LOL. Most of my riding is just around town with plenty of stops so it is not a big deal but I would like to figure something out just in case I do want a longer ride.

I have an LSL-type tube bar adapter with 7/8" alloy bars. I put on a set of gel grips and the foam slip-on grip covers, and even with lighter bar-end weights, vibration is not an issue. With the tube bar, you don't have to hold your weight up and your grip on the bars is thusly much looser. Vibration causes your grip to tighten up and just makes the numbness worse.

Hub I don't here or feel noise from clutch area but I am also about half deaf ( to many years listing to the screaming haul trucks at the mines). Sounds like I need to find a mechanic who knows about the zx14 and have him go over it.

Hey

Old thread, but same problem.
I had a bit of vibration since new, but not enough to worry me.
Just ungraded the suspension (AK20 kit, fork springs and rear shock).
Now my hands are buzzing in 10mins! Any chance this buzzing is coming up through the front wheel?
I don't think so, cause I shifted into higher gears which dropped the revs at same speed and buzz reduced.

I had the bars off (the 2 mounting bolts) to get the forks back in and measured up. Maybe they are seated different.
Any ideas?

Well...maybe...your 'new' forks are allowing some vibration to transmit more than the stock setup?IDK....It is possible the front tire is now more 'solid' with your new stuff....possibly your tire wear is becoming more noticeable?Maybe just try softening the fork settings up a bit...just to see.????If it goes away...then you know it's your new items.

You have a lot of mods on her....hard to say really what could be causing this.
