I had a moth fly into my ear once. Everybody thought I was possessed the way I was flailing all over the place. it's just terrifying when there is a critter buzzing up against your eardrum.

LOL... you guys should go check out the Evil Blimp story I posted in the "Off Topic" section. I wanted to make it non-bike specific so more people might read it...

That one will make really laugh out loud :)

Bugs in the helmet in general would make you test your mantle of coolness not to wreck your bike trying to get your helmet off, LMAO but the hell with bees I DO NOT DO BEES!!!

Oh yeah! Been there and done that "dance". Twice. Once with bee in helmet and once again in jacket.
Got lucky first time, no stingy! Jacket incident ended with bike sliding to stop beside road (still upright in the gravel), jacket on ground and me dancing around it as I tried to brush off bee partially attached to my chest thru the t-shirt by his (her) stinger.

Worse, but not as dangerous, was the yellow jacket in the pop can that I nearly swallowed (the yellow jacket, not the pop can) late one summer as I was draining the last dregs in the can. Got a big fat lip out of that one!

Thank God, I'm not allergic to stings. Only prescribed meds put me in the hospital, LOL.

Never had a stow away or an unwanted guest make an appearance in my lid. But I have had the ole something is crawling in my ear feeling followed by the 'ole tap that helmet with the non signal finger.

I had something fly in my helmet while riding around with my shield up and and the damn thing crawled around and right into my GD ear. Now that will make you want to piss yourself. LUCKILY for me I was out riding hard most of the day and when I do that I pop in some earplugs to help keep the wind noise down.

Otherwise it may not have been such a controlled stop!

We have regular bee swarms in Tucson. Every year, I can expect to see at least two swarm balls, and hear a couple more (they're pretty loud when passing overhead).

They park in the trees around our house. They look like odd tree growth until you get too close. Then they look like they're morphing. We leave them alone, and they leave of their own accord in a couple hours (they're just resting).

Pretty cool, but I run pretty fast (indoors) when I see them or hear them. All the dogs come in, too.

I have seen one swarm on the commute, passing in front of me on the freeway (I10) heading north to south, with me headed east to west. I avoided it that time, but I'm ready to pin it should I "be" unlucky enough to ride through it.

They're *all* africanized now.

Bees are a big issue to me / for me. They're a dying race, and we (as a race) are going to be *very* sorry, and hungrier, when they're gone. I support the ban on pesitcides that kill them. My .02: They need our help to survive now, not our killing them. (I'm not talking about one-zies / two-zies, I'm talking about en-mass killing of thousands to millions).

Rant Mode Off :)

I totally agreee with the need but as long as they leave me alone I'm cool, just can't let em take over. Would like to settle the angry bees (africanized) with some valium or something, lol.

It was at the rockstore many moons ago.
It had garbage cans at each end of the vacant gas pump stations.
It was the dumping ground for yellow jackets to swarm around in.
It had made me cautious with the allergic reaction I have to bee venom.
It was like staring at the devil(s) flying around as they bothered no one.
It was my orange drink sip that I'll never forget.
It had a fragrance of nature's poo sea sap was the taste to the tongue.
It was the yellow jackets legs that I tickled my tasters with.
It had met the devil's tail and I knew the next second what happened.
It was then I took that squeeze and added more venom into the tongue.
It was stuck in well as shock entered the picture within the following second.
It had taken over my whole body as I pulled out the devil's fork.
It was time to say goodbye to the universe or I better head to the ER.
It had happened that fast as I swung the titaniums over the seat to leave.
It was nothing for them to do but for me to wait out the shock of the devil's syrup that spoon fed me that day.

Years ago I was driving a delivery van down Hwy 5 behind a group of Hardleys. They were all wearing vests, sleeveless t-shirts, open beanie helmets etc. All the sudden the whole group starts weaving all over the road like crazy people. A second later I smashed into about 500 bees that were crossing from their hives to the orange orchards on the other side of the freeway. No one dumped their bikes but that was funny right there.

My last encounter was with a bee. I actually saw it and had the presence of mind to raise my hand. I missed by an inch.........right into my jacket. Stung before I could stop............I ground it into a greasy spot on the road.

Man I'd be in a panic. I was riding behind a freind one day and he hit a crane at about 45mph. I saw this big as bird fly out of a hige ditch right in front of him. Then I saw him almost fall off the back of the bike and all I saw was what seemed like thousands of feathers go everywhere. he had feathers in his helmet and in his jacket and everything. the bird seemed to get away unharmed but his chest was bruised pretty bad. Funny as hell now that i look back at it. Bee's are not for me.

Wasps are worse. The sting you over and over until you get them out of your clothes or helmet.
Also when you hit one from behind you get a full injection due to impact pressure as the stinger is out all the time.
Throat shots hurt.

My worst was a wood pigeon to the chest at speed. Like hitting a flying chicken.
