Go Pro Hero Black Edition
04/23/13 6:56 PM

Thinking of getting one of these. Been to Best buy and Wal Mart and just about got one, but not sure I want to spend that much on a camera.

Anyone else have one? And if so, are you happy with it? Use it much?

Being the kinda person I am, if I get one, I gotta have the latest and greatest! So its a black edition or none at all! Same mindset that got me off a Z1000 and on a ZX14R. LOL

I have a Hero2 and that is about as much camera as I can handle right now. I'm very satisfied. I like my contour GPS, too.

One thing that has struck me is that for the price, you might just get a camcorder that is only a little bit bigger and has much more versatility. The sound is something that these dedicated onboard cams are really good at though. That is really important to me.

I splurged and got the black edition. Got a few accessories, like the chest mount, extra battery, LCD back display screen, and storage card.

May take some time to learn all its funtions, but it seems like a really high quality, very cool looking little thing.

Sorry, I know very little about these cameras but I am interested. I've seen some youtube videos where the sound is terrible, others where it's good. What effects the sound so much, wind? What is the secret to getting better sound? Do they have a remote mic that you can mount into your helmet?

I just looked into that and it don't come with its own Mike but yhey offer a mic adapter so you can connect a separate mic to get better sound
I may have to get a good, seperate mic to get that full Brock's roar

I did some * research * behind the keyboard and found out the sound is not bad on the stock mic, but with an external mic, especially a stereo mic, you get killer sound in stereo to go along with the very high quality video.

I personally ordered the mic adaptor cord from Go Pro (my local Best Buy didn't have it), as well as an Olympus ME-51S external stereo mic off of E Bay.

I should be ready to roll now once these last items come in. But I should be given the $$$$ I am out, now.

What I gave for this camera and things to go with it I could have made two BMW S1000RR payments!

This guy does a really good comparison of about five different external mics. I think the difference in sound from no mic, to an external is really worth the extra $$$> In my opinion, anyway.

Quick update since I've used the camera a few times now.

This is one amazingly high quality, cool machine to have. Highly recommended.

Cool and really impressive little machine for a biker to have.
THe picture quality is great, even on overcast and cloudy days. But on a sunny day...........Oooo, its sharp.........

Now just waiting on my mic.
I'll post some video once I get the Olympus mic in the mail and get it all rolling.
