High speed front end weave

Hi all,

Took the bike out this weekend for a run. At about 260km/h it started a ossilation of the handle bars with front feeling very light. It is only on the throttle. It is a 2013 with Puig double bubble screen.

Anyone experience something similiar. Never had this problem with previous two 14's.

check your suspension settings and what kinda tire you running



Full Muzzy, flies out,K&N, black wind screen, pc3, pm wheels, blue led gauges and lights, scorpip alarm, roaring toyz kickstand and lowering links, tinted turn sigs.

At those speeds it should be like glass. I like down on hard acceleration if the front end is coming up. Because when mine lifts the handlebar begins to shake. Is it coming up?

Bobby,

Bike is brand new with 380km on the clock. Still running standard suspension settings with OE Metzeler M5 Sportech tires.

I used the same windscreen on both my gen 1's, also initially with standard suspension settings without any such problems.

Is there a big difference in set up from gen 1 to gen 2. At slow speed the R feels very good, but not so sure now at higher speed. The sensation from indicated 260km/h to 300km/h was that the front wheel is not in contact with the ground all the time so your concern about suspension settings sound right. I weight about 265 lb. will have to change the set up accordingly.

Paul I'm 240LBS and rode 300km stock but had to sit on tank and lie down. She felt like glass at 220, 240, 260, grabbed fistfulls of throttle 300. No shake or toggle. But you have to put your weight forward. C'BLAST set up my suspension, front and rear a week ago, now I don't even get handlebar shakes at launch, roll on and at HIGH speed. So for sure it's suspension and rider position.

The front on these things always feels light to me when accelerating, but this was different. My previous bikes where also like glass (as you said) when doing the same manoeuvres.

I like to get the wheel up in 1st, 2nd and 3rd but then its deliberate. Whenever I'm approaching 300km/h I want it to be planted.

I will definitely do the suspension set up sooner. I wanted to wait till I change the exhaust to allow for the difference in weight, but I am rethinking that now.

Bro us big guys will lift the front 123rd you could subtract the weight and dial in or add the weight of the cans. Or you could set her up with stockers off. Truth be told you need to adjust susp and I would not wait. Under How To there is a suspension adjust. The cool cat that helped me was CBLAST. He walked me through it over the phone. Ie he the brains me the monkey with the screw driver. Once dialed it should not misbehave in the 3's

Hey Paul, sorry to just chime in, but at those speed I would be concerned about the stock tires. I really do believe they are so bad they are a safety issue. The sooner you get better rubber in the correct profile (190/55), the sooner you will be able to actually push her harder. Tires and slips were my first two major upgrades and the difference is huge. As for suspension bud, at ur weight and what you describe, I wouldn't touch the front, you problem is coming from the rear 'overplanting', causing 'SQUIDGE'. And yes, that is a technical term. It means: the squirrelly unstable feeling in the front end. As you describe. I would simply try adding 1.2 turns of rear spring preload, ride and write down impressions. Then add 1/8 turn only of rear spring rebound damping. Then again, ride and write down. I bet right then what you write down is, holy shit. :))

What this should do is give you CHASSIS back its correct geometry, or closer to it with your weight. This allowing the front to do its job better. Once we get the rear sorted, the front may need a minor tweak. As long as you write down ALL of the adjustments, its easy to figure out where we are. Even if you don't, we can re-zero everything. JUST NEVER EVER FORCE ANY OF THE ADJUSTMENTS. You can easily tell when you come to the end of the range. They just bump up solid. Take it for what it is. They click, click, bump. That is the end of adjustment. No forcing. The one caveat is: REAR SPRING PRELOAD IS ADJUSTED WITH A HAMMER AND LONG SCREWDRIVER. Kinda got to hit it. :))

Oh PS pushed a hard 80km in the rain, I mean MOFORAIN pelting drops and hail. No shit hail. The Mich Road 3's are an amazing tire. I was like WHOT! They grip for dry hooliganism and they grip in the wet sledge.
Man for those who challenge this tire's merits over the power pures, I urge you to ride them and you will not look elsewhere!

Run the stock screen at the same speed.
Run the poogee screen once again.

1000km service? Have you gone 1000 kilometers yet? Like clockwork my steering knock came on. That is part of the first service.

1. Inspect neck for knock. If not, there is no need for any adjustment. You'll hear it if it's needed. Swings back and forth fine? So X is the knock forward and back. The swing is Y you better not feel it hang up or hard to turn, feels crunchy, not smooth, etc.

2. The whoogee whaawhoo WOTchewmaycall it, I call it get it the fuck off you wanna speedy deedy indeedy. Maybe a wobble sets in at 300km you wanna peg the needle.

3. For what it's worth. "Put this halfairing on." We were not even close to the speeds back then as we are today of course, so that shitass fairing put me in a wiggle, passing guys on the straight, or snake up to the wall. I have video of passing the rider. I saw the other video someone else catching this rain race. Lucky me the bike fishtailed out of that wobble shake, or I'd hold on to a dry tire and for every action, that wig is on it's way back from where it came.


I associate you messing mit mother teapot and her aerodynamics... Bet me!

Hub always speaks to the heart of the problem! I too noticed buffeting in the top of sixth with the zero gravity DB. The very first ride that I noticed buffeting at anything above 170mph, I traded it for a stocker to a member here. One ride at speed that DB lasted. :)) good protection at touring or mid speeds, but climb over 150mph and coefficient of drag becomes a major factor. The ZG DB is different than the PUIG. Never used one of them. I do like the SR screen from ZG.
