Cruse Control
05/14/09 4:11 PM

Im trying to remember from the old forum. someone came up with an idea for a cheap throttle lock for their bike!!! I believe it was some type of o ring that was installed between the grip and the bar .Can anyone help refresh my memory. It would be great to shake the cob webs out of my right hand on extended rides.

I remember that. He had just used a rubber O ring from his CAT's hydrolics. He kept it on the bar end and would roll it over between the grip and bar end for cruisin'. Said it provided just enough resistance to hold the throttle in place.
Bet you could find something at the hardware store that would work the same.

You can actually install an aftermarket car cruise control on a zx14. I've seen it. Just gotta be crafty lol.

And its an actual cruise, not just a throttle lock.

Cheap and effective cruise control....

and there is also a unit a little more expensive on his site, as well, that does not use canisters... etc

Thanks dogo, Im leaning towards the cheapo-ring trick. It would be cool to add a regular cruse control but i just cant see spending a 100 bones on one of them. O.K.,I guess i should tell the truth!!The wife isnt letting me buy more bike parts till i do some overtime.

I was messing around with the idea of a throttle lock today and came up with this....

I cut 3 inches off one of my stock grips and slid it over my bar end.

When you slide the grip over to the throttle it cups it self over the grip very nicely like this.

It worked well with the foam grips on my bike and it cost me nothing

the o-ring works good. it allows you to take your hand off and shake it out without slowing down.
mostly for the highway.

oh yeah,
i can roll it on and off with my little finger. easy to use. it almost looks like it would come off when not in use while riding but it doesn't.

I tryed using an o-ring but with my foam grips there was not enough resistance to hold the throttle open.
Anyways there is always more than one way to skin a cat
