ZX-14R color variations using OEM pieces
04/08/13 10:20 PM

The ZX-14R seems a little, I dunno, chunky, in its stock form. I'm trying to mix & match OEM pieces to try to lighten the look some.

Stock below:

Black front fender & rear tail lower below:

What do you think?

Sure ... front 1/2, rear 1/2, or both?

I can also mix & match pieces with a white bike ... or, yikes, a green one.

I can also do wheel stripes.

I think part of the chunky look may be the two main black painted frame pieces right in the center behind the engine, but not sure I can adjust the color of those very well, yet. Will try, tho.

Not the tank cover...just the tank and the fender and rear lower side fairings.

Like this?

How 'bout red wheel stripes? Too gaudy now??

Come up with a good Red/White/Blue for me to match my Honda Interceptor... lol

Grn ... I grabbed hi rez OEM pics of a red, a white & a black 14 off the 'net, scaled them until they're exactly the same size as each other, and then with a free program called paint.net, I "lasso" select whichever piece I want to copy, then switch to the bike I want to paste it onto, hit paste, and wah-lah. Pretty easy.

Say so if you have any other color combo ideas ... I'm kinda out of ideas ... I can of course combine pieces from all 3 colors, so we could have a tri-color if any combo seems like it might work. (oh forgot green ... so 4 color possibility ... could get ugly!)

BTW I can also add graphics of any shape/ size/ color to these, if any ideas.

Heck we might just design the design the next ZX-14R!

I like where you are going with this. Just imagining but I think black seat cowl and tank would be amazing... And everything else red.

Great work on these. I don't personally care for the black fender, but the black tank cover and rear tail section are not bad.

Can you do the grills of the 2013 limited edition model (black/green) onto a green 2012 model please?

Hey neil, you can fit the black/ green grills straight on.
I fitted a set to my black 2012.
Got them off ebay out of the states for around $350 the pair delivered

Sweet!;)I think those SE grills would have looked 'better' with the green paint ONLY going to the end of the raised tine...not 'in' the 'groove' going all the way back.

^ I thought the same thing. The grooves being painted looks a bit cheap. Just the raised rails being painted would have looked a lot better.

Something else silly I did (having a hard time finding exact same pose pics from one color to the next from this angle, otherwise I could do more mix-&-matching)

YES...that green...except...see where the tines are raised in the side panel? Those 'channels'(just above and below the tine(s)(like the channels going aft of the tines)...those painted black...only the raised tines being green.Almost there;)...also...no belly flames...just to see what she'd look like.

okie - I haven't been able to find a hi rez pic of the black model from the same angle. That's what I'd need to do that.

Another (not my best work - I had to manually color in the fins):

The red/black looks good, but all the black panels need to match for it to look cohesive (instead of a mix/match crash repair). Gloss the grills and belly, or matte the fender/tank/tail. :)
