A couple questions???
08/19/12 10:13 PM

I was curious if anyone here lowered there 14R and if so did it really mess up the handling? I've been considering a 1" drop both front/rear, nothing drastic of course but a little help with the launch and keeping the front down at the track would be nice, besides that they look sick lowered! My concern of course if messing up the handling. Granted its not a hypersport but the bike handles pretty good and I love to rail through the corners and don't want to lose that. Aside from the loss of 1" of ground clearance any adverse effects to lowering? I figure bringing both front and rear down 1" would keep the geometry in tact and theoretically should handle the close to stock but would love to hear from those with experience.

On another note was contemplating getting the PC V as well but does that remove the time retard in 1-3 and the top speed limiter or did I need to go straight ECU flash for that? Is the ECU flash better than the PC V or your pretty much doing the same thing. I've been out dabbling a bit racing it and while nobody has yet to come around it I'd like to make it a bit more difficult lol. I have run a modded out R1 and a lowered/stretched/motorwork GSXR 1000 and won pretty handily but there are some fast bikes and I can't have just anyone dethroning the king of the road (you can chuckle at that comment it's ok, all tongue in cheek of course). I know there is always someone fast (i.e turbo busa) but I'd like to make it a touch quicker.

Exhaust. It seems Brocks is the favorite here too. I really love the duel pipes, I know you get more from the 4-2-1 but call me old fashioned I like the look. Which Brock setup would be best (or other system).

Thanks in advance...

I lowered my 14R in the front 1" & rear 1.5", and now it's back to stock. It made the bike "twitchy" and forced me to crank up my damper, it also wanted to dive into turns going slow. If it was a track bike only it would have been permanently lowered, but I jump on it and ride 100 miles often so handling & comfort is key to me. I lowered it initially to help keep wheelies down, but it still came up regardless.

I would like to think that our support is above the rest for my customers...

Lowering the bike will definetly take away from the handling... it will also run hotter from less air available to the radiator. I rode Seno's bike whick was lowered 1 inch, I personally didn't care for it, (steering was slowed down too much) but I'm more of a cornering guy and will probably go with an Ohlins one day and raise the rear to make it turn in quicker.

You need to decide what is most important to you... try it and see, the parts to do it aren't very expensive.

hmmm, after seeing those Dyno #'s The Brock pipe may no longer be the fav. Cost or dollar per hp Akrapovic clear winner.

Ivan, in the pics you have shown with the description of the Akrapovic Pipe,,,,. No info on dyno pull with short Akra Muffler. Must have a little more peek Hp ? Any info on shorty Muffler you have shown ? Dyno runs used which one ?

Great info guys. So I'm going to stay away from lowering the bike. My buddy was nagging me about it so I thought I'd do some research.

On another note I was reading Ivan's site and it says ECU flash and PC V? If you get the ECU flashed why do you need the Power Commander? isn't that the point of the PC is when you can't flash the ECU, if you can program the ECU why the Power Commander? I come from the car world where everything is done in the ECU...

I'm lowering my Connie with Muzzy rear lowering links and raising the fork tubes, so 1-1/2" in back and 1" in front.

Doing this so I can have better footing at stops. With my bum knees I need a little extra security.

I'll adjust my riding style to accomodate the negatives.

I just stretched and lowered my bike and didnt really notice much at all to be honest. I went with an six inch strech and lowered the front one inch and the back i really dont know how much because i used soupys adjustable lowering links. I think the bike now looks wayyyyy better and for a guy who just crusing around i didnt notice any harsher bike handling at all. Now i usally HATE people with lowered or stretched out bikes but the ninja looks great with it. I really dont get everyone saying it handles way worse. Now dont get me wrong here where i live i have no tight stuff but flying through long sweepers feels very good to me and going top end feels very planted also. I love it for my first stretched and lowered bike.

Phantom i had the same? ? About ecu it appears some places can do it w/out pc others can't ... i would like it all done by ecu it as too get rid of the piggy back unit and save $300... i think ill wait before doing any mods as i dont see spending 1k+ on exhaust $400 on flash and $300 on pcv...

There is no difference at all (none nada zippo) in regards to muffler length.... we shortened his muffler because he wanted it to be a bit louder.... it's still pretty quiet.

My flash does not have fuel mapping changes...

I recommend the PCV for fuel adjustments because it is the easiest to deal with for you the customer.... you can make the changes yourself, or you can go to your favorite dyno tuner.

Any fuel changes that need to be made to the ECU involve down time, and expensive shipping costs.

I will include my PCV map with PCV purchases or if you get my flash and you already have a PCV, then I will share it with you as a "perk" for spending your money with me.

Ivan,
Do you have any experience with the V&H FuelPak on the '14? I was wondering how it would compare to a PCV.

TIA!

That's great Ivan. What does the package run for PCV, exhaust and ECU Flash?

Ivan,
Do you have any experience with the V&H FuelPak on the '14? I was wondering how it would compare to a PCV.

I'm sorry, but I do not... The PCV is very user friendly and is very east to change any part of the fueling, I just don't bother with the others because I can do everything that I need to with the PCV.

That's great Ivan. What does the package run for PCV, exhaust and ECU Flash?

I'm sorry but you need to call us for pricing... I don't like to put pricing in an open forum, and I ask others to please not put my prices in public either.

Thanks,

Ivan
