Rocket Fast
11/27/12 9:03 AM

just got in from a ride and i am AMAZED at how fast the 14R is. it is stupid fast! i rode 2 lane back farm roads and a couple of times just nailed it from about 5 MPH. I could not hang on tight enough to go through the gears! I have ridden a lot of bikes in my 35yrs of riding but i have never been on anything as fast as this!

Its missle fast, yes. Power straight from the bowels of hell itself.

The acceleration is especially impressive when you think the bike weighs 585 pounds. That's alot of weight to get moving that fast, but the engine has grunt to spare.

Yup the speed is just mind bending. I love it! What's even more amazing is just tooling down the interstate at 70 mph and grab a wrist full in 6th and you still have to hang on for dear life!!!

It's not just 585 lbs either...you weigh how much?Yup...she's a missile alright...plenty of thrills with this bike for sure. And I thought my 07 was strong...

" at 70 mph and grab a wrist full in 6th and you still have to hang on for dear life!!!"....mmmmm...drop er down to 3rd...and do that...and don't let up till redline.....Or 2nd....she'll do it.

I had mine at around 45,50 mph...in like 2nd......I shifted to third...and rolled on smartly. As she passed 6K it felt like the engine smoothly and quickly opened up.At around 8K....this is no shit here...I actually started getting dizzy the thrust was that strong....It was pretty cool.I had to let up...not knowing if I was 'okay' or what was happening.Hit me unexpectedly that's for sure.Mind you...this was not wide open throttle all at once either.Brisk rollon. She had much more there than I tapped into that day.

That is because there never has been anything like this before.
Try squeezing your knees real hard during acceleration. The flexing of your legs will prevent blood from dropping into your lower extremities and causing light headedness.

Okay...I will try that. Not that the lightheadedness is a bad thing...but it did catch me offguard.

With my gearing I like doing 70 then shift to 3rd and hammer it.Me and Hagrid were riding awhile back on the highway. Were going up a hill at 80 in 6th and I just grabbed the gas till I hit 150.What a rush and even uphill in top gear.If I had downshifted and held it to 10 grand in each gear I know I would of seen topend.Hagrid was kind,he could of passed me if he wanted to on that 2012 ZX-14R.

I get the "lightheadedness" sometimes, kinda cool, (as long as it doesn't last too long) I can also feel the front end come up, just accelerating, never had that so much with any other bike ....

THe bike's extreme acceleration gives me personally a nausiated feel. And I've not even come close to opening it up.

I am the kinda guy who gets sick on airplane takeoffs, so this bike's power will take some getting used to.

I read somewhere, the acceleration this bike makes is cloase to the forces astronauts feel when leaving our atmosphere.

Given a zero to 60mph time of about 2.5 seconds; similar to the Bugati Veyron Vitesse with 1200 hp, the average acceleration over that initial time period is a bit over one g.

The space shuttle in its trip to orbit had an average acceleration in the same neighborhood, as I recall, although that is a much longer time period of several minutes not just a few seconds.

So in that comparison, you could be close with your description. Now another ride into space, like the Apollo launch sequence, may be very different.

Certainly this is nowhere close to fighter aircraft and certainly no one except the very weak and/or elderly should be in danger of losing consciousness, LOL.

Older people and non-athletic persons could go on a shuttle trip with no fears of too much acceleration, school teachers, senators, etc. Not so on the moon launches.

Cheers.

I agree with Paul, the zx-14/zx-14r wouldn't scratch a fighter jet pilot itch. That being said it's way cheaper than a plane.

Ricky Gadsen commented on his new 14R...he said..."It's not unlike what a fighter pilot experiences in takeoff"....his impressions.I'd have to agree...it does have the capability to mimic the thrust and g's in the right conditions.

lol Cause he couldn't afford the jet!

Not to take anything from the 14/14R but Rickey Gadson was embellishing. That statement would have had more weight if he was a fighter jet pilot. Then again he did say "not unlike" so it was probably not meant to be taken literally.I've gotten a ride in a fighter jet, that stuff wasn't even the latest tech, all I can say is that I have a lot of respect for those guys. A fighter jet and a ZX-14 is like comparing Halo Jumping and Body Jumping. What you feel in a F-35 has nothing to do with what you feel on a ZX-14. A smaller civilian aircraft sure but not a fighter jet.

lol Speaking of movies remember the ZX-14 commercial, the guy riding two up, Where is he riding? To the airstrip.

No...it wasn't meant literally...I don't think so anyway...but it definitely does have a hugely strong range of power for a stock streetbike...it can surprise a guy(pleasantly). You get it in the right numbers curve...she hauls.

Can't get the white one...apparently,that's a EURO for white with ABS.
White non-abs..yup I COULD have gotten that one.Nah...I want abs this time out....so I went with....SE GREEN.(no flames). They musta had a run on those Green ones....very popular apparently. So they left the flames off...and added ABS for 2013...sa'll good...ordered my lower fairing, upper flames set yesterday;)...the belly fairing has two flames on it.I just liked the upper one.So I'll have..a 'hybrid' SE,abs...Kinda cool. The green's a killer color anyway...much easier to take care of than that white whale=0(although that white one WAS starting to grow on me). It's very nice.

In case anyone was thinking about adding abs to their 2012....it's sold on the web....the unit and all from the factory. The piping,pump...whole nine yards.I looked at the Kawasaki parts fiche...it's there...and for sale on some of the Kawasaki parts websites(legits).Interesting thing here...there is no 'other' sensor for that unit...front and back...and also...no separate 'speed ring' either. It's using the factory KTRC sensor for it's activation readings.Nothing different about the parts at all...no additional brake things.I didn't check the ecu numbers from 2012 and 2013...they may be the same ecu.If so...it's very possible those 2012's are already set up for abs...except maybe the dash lights...IDK if there's an icon or something there when the abs is 'working' or not.Anyone notice on their 2012's if there's a 'space' in the lamp cluster on the dash for another icon?

My friend juut bought his 14R less than 2 weeks ago. Had his on Low power and cracked the throttle all the way in 6th gear on one of our rides. He was crazy impressed. Said it pulled harder than his CBR1000RR. I told him to switch to Full power and crack it. He couldn't believe the difference. He didn't realize he was doing 185 until he glanced at his speedo. Scared the shit out of him. LMAO!!! His CBR would vibrate heavily at 185. The Big Ninja was as smooth as a AMG Mercedes Benz.

He installed the Buell foot rests and helibar risers. Loves the more relaxed ergos. Said he now understands why I logged 10K miles in 6 months on my 14R. A true pleasure to ride.

"The Big Ninja was as smooth as a AMG Mercedes Benz"...yup....I could 'look' in my rear views...and it was very clear...at 180+.I couldn't feel any noticeable vibrations from mine.It got more stable..if that's possible with this bike...the faster she rolled.I love the 14R.Glad you have a ridin buddy who has one as well. That must be fun goin ridin together with the same spaceships!;)
